They are not a soft team. That's just a bullsh@t narrative. I can't remember a game this year that I felt they were physically intimidated. They have guys who can and do play with an edge. Trouba, ADA, Lemieux, Lindgren, Smith,Howden, Haley even Kreider. This isn't the 70's with the Broad street bullies anymore. We don't need goons anymore.
Soft doesn't equate to being bullied or fighting exclusively. There are other types of soft. This squad is short on driving the net for garbage goals and deflections. They are almost exclusively reliant on the royal road plays. See the post from the flyers fan above yours.

He’s ridiculously snakebit right now. He has never been a “lucky” player. He’s kind of the epitome for me of the guys who’s stick breaks shooting at the yawning cage. But if you acknowledge that you also have to point out that he is constantly in good position to score. Eventually he’ll have a huge season. I am sensing it won’t be as a Ranger though. Probably he ends up in Pittburgh and Hayeses us left and right.

You can't be unlucky for multiple seasons.

How do we know it's actually "his" staff?
Well he brought in a guy he worked with in the past. in David Oliver who worked with him when he was with the Colorado organization. Greg Brown was a teammate of Quinn's back in the day and coached against him in the college ranks. Both of those two seemed like Quinn bringing in his guys. Ruff was a holdover from the previous organization as the veteran guiding hand so I assume that's the only one who wasn't Quinn's guy.

Plus, doesn't matter if he hired them or not. He's the head coach, it's his staff regardless of how the staff was formed.

Some of the takes in this thread are flat out embarrassing.

They played neck-and-neck against a good team, went down a goal, and mentally imploded when trying to squeeze out more offense.
Hart was the best player on the ice tonight, it happens.

This team has warts, most of which are by design. I think some people have somehow adopted the mentality of "I know we are rebuilding, but these three things are fixable!" I don't think it works like that.

Provorov, who is the Flyers 1d, had a horrendous turnover that lead to our shorthanded goal - but the Philly is farther along than us on the development curve and they overcame it. Rising tide raises all ships.

When the overall talent level on this team rises and the Haley-Smith-McKegg line is nothing but a distant memory we all have a good chuckle over - Trouba will still get turnstyled every so often, Buch will still be cracking his sticks over the crossbar, Brendan Lemieux will still take dumb penalties in the offensive zone, we will still shake our head at Fast getting inserted somewhere in the top six; but we will be a playoff team.

Happy Holidays everyone.

If a player is doing great stuff and not scoring, he must be a great defensive forward.
He’s average defensively this year but again this is just moving the goalposts.

Buchnevich is what he is, which isn’t a bad thing. He is one of the last things people should be complaining about

so what?

I said he was the reason we lost last night and your throwing stats at me. The only stat that matters relative to LAST NIGHT is how many high danger chances he flat out blew in a 1 goal game.

by the way when you say PRODUCE? He’s on a 47 point pace playing with studs in Mika or Panarin. Should that be impressive?
You said he should be off the team. You don’t throw away a good player for playing one “bad game” (it was an excellent game for him).

Again, you’re wrong about who he plays with. Just because you keep saying he plays with Panarin or Zibanejad, doesn’t change the fact that he has only spend roughly 1/3 of this season with those players. Most of the time he is playing with some combination of Chytil/Strome/Lemieux/Howden/Kreider

Not saying he's the primary problem or close to it, but nothing great about him.

Outstanding post.

Defensively this team doesn’t get it

the backing in stuff and yielding prime turf to your opponent needs to stop

i see this defense as a work in progress. Still on board with ruff being shown the door

the only guys who were successful in stepping up tonight were fox and ADA.

there seems to be less defensive structure than other teams and that is perhaps the single biggest reason for the struggles with consistency.

We are a team of finesse forwards and passive defenders.

You act like we are the only team with finesse forwards. You have to have that in today's NHL game to be successful. I also wouldn't characterize Fast, Howden, Kreider, Haley, Smith, Lemieux as finesse forwards. I agree with you on the defensive structure or lack thereof from the Dmen in their own zone. Too much ground is given up consistently. It's not working.

You’re like 100. You should have......................

........plenty............,,,............

Of..........

Pa...

Pat.....

....patience........
The problem, young man, is that I, like you, have an expiration date.

Every day is a blessing.

To paraphrase former Jets owner Leon Hess ‘I’m 67 years old...I want to win now’!

Don’t you think they’re playing way better defense lately? It seems to me they’re standing up at the line and in the neutral zone quite regularly. Sometimes they get caught on the back foot but so does every team and it’s happening to the Rangers less lately. I’m not analyzing every rush but that’s my impression.

The last few games yes, aside from the last 5 minutes last night, but overall the defense in their own zone has not been good. I'm hoping we see better defense more consistently.

By stuck in the wrong division, I think he meant that instead of playing the exhausting travel of team such as the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils, it would make more sense to align the New York Rangers with less distant teams who we have longer historical rivalries with such as the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars
I think what he meant was in a different division the Rangers would be in a playoff position with the point total they currently have. The Metro is a deadly division. There is a possibility that a team could have 105 points this year and barely make top 3.

He’s not an X’s and O’s Coach

He *allegedly* knows how to motivate players and relate to them. He’s never been a great systems coach

All coaches are x and o's coaches in the nhl, they didnt get there by being a cheerleader. Our PK has come leaps and bounds from the start of the year. Our pp was good but now it sucks, they will work on that. We have a lot of holes on this roster, give the man a team and then judge him.

It’s been talked about by folks familiar with Quinn that he is not a good X’s and O’s guy

And that he needed strong assistants to be successful.

Thus far that assessment looks accurate

Their play has been better recently and the PK has improved. They’ve played a lot of good games the last two weeks. CF% and xGF% are both average since 2019-12-09.

An example of a pure "X and Os" coach if there ever was, so who cares?

In any business, a good manager hires good advisors.

Why, every single season without fail, does MSG decide to air one particular commercial from one particular car manufacturer with one particular song playing 6 to 10 times EVERY SINGLE BROADCAST????

This year it's the Honda commercial, in a more recent season it was the Volvo commercial...

Don't the marketing teams at these large companies understand the psychological effects of bombarding a specific viewing audience with the same ad over and over and over again? It turns into a negative association due to the irritation that arises... It makes the viewer less likely to have a positive association or regard for the product in question... Doesn't MSG understand that their repeated airing of the same commercial over and over and over again is pissing off their viewing audience???

It's common sense... What they're doing is not good for the company making the advertisement, and it's not good for anyone really...

I wish the responsible parties would 'wake up' and knock this crap off... Fortunately I'm viewing recorded streams through an NHL.tv subscription, and can fairly easily faster forward through commercial breaks... However when I'm too slow to do that I end up seeing that damn Honda commercial, repeatedly...

Because they're getting paid big bucks to do so -- the more the ad is played, the more MSG is played. I am sure they could care less what the fans think.

I listen to 1010 WINS in the mornings and I am ready to strangle those responsible for the "Kars for Kids" -- I only listen for at most an hour a day and am guaranteed to hear that tripe at least 7 - 10 times.

The only thing it guarantees is that you'll never forget the product.

Yeah and that's concerning... Probably why they have no issue displaying those glowing/neon digitally-imposed advertisements behind the goals and on the side glass during broadcasts... Or showing us full video ads during the broadcast in between whistles and when there's no actual commercial break... I think I've even seen some brief picture-in-picture ads displayed during the actual gameplay...

Actually, what I'll never forget is how irritating the song became that was featured in the commercial that was aired ad nauseum... And this negative association will influence me to steer clear of that particular product and perhaps even the manufacturer as a whole since I'm bothered by their advertising practices...

There are the operative words -- for every 7 people they piss off, there are 3 who will actually buy the product.

Unfortunately, the days are long gone when "fan favor" played a part in decisions made by sports franchises. As long as corporate sponsorship is present, we "fans" have little influence.

Do you really believe that marketing doesn't know how to get the best results from their advertising? They research this stuff to death. That's all they do.

It's more likely that they have a better grasp of this stuff than someone who probably has done little to no research on the topic.

Feel free to dig up the 'research' that proves that subjecting a viewing audience to the same commercial playing the same (now) irritating song 6-10 times during a 2 1/2 hour broadcast is good for sales and brand loyalty...

If they aired that commercial once during the broadcast? No problem at all... The problem is with the repetitiveness and the fact that you don't want to hear the same song repeated over and over and over again within a short duration... It's not hard for one to wrap one's head around the psychological dynamics as to why this becomes irritating... What happens to popular songs that get overplayed on the radio airwaves? They get played out and then no one wants to hear them anymore and they get dropped from the playlist rotation....

The appeal to authority argument claiming that the 'marketing people' know better is really not convincing - not when one can reference innumerable examples of major companies making controversial ads or making marketing decisions that end up causing a lot of customer blowback, controversy, and criticism...
