Refs were truly on another level tonight.
  • Only a 2 min minor for Ellis' hit on Buchnevich.
  • Fast for holding after being cross-checked 4 times while down on the ice.
  • Lemieux 10-minute misconduct for love tapping a player.
Banner night for officiating, IMO

Adam Fox is a God.

Also, "Let's Go Preds" chants were louder. Embarrassing

Fox has played very well and will probably have a nice career, but the last 5 games or so, he has made some defensive mistakes he wasn't making earlier.

I was extremely ticked off at the lack of response to the cheap play from Nashville. We have a team full of young players and nobody there to protect them from getting hammered. When effing Ryan Ellis gives a blatant elbow to the head and doesn't have to answer the bell, that's a problem. If we are going to fill roster spots with McKegg and Smith, why not just bring in a killer from the A who will play a Tom Wilson type of role? Not expecting scoring, just heavy forecheck, finishing hits and, occasionally, punching someone in the face.

It's not the good old days when guards were on every roster. You need some players who are both skilled and physical. The Rangers sorely lack that. That's not the fault of the players. They are what they are.

Management has to do a better job in that area. It's gotten a little better with Trouba and Lindgren, but more is needed.

Kreider could be that, but he could be a lot of things he isn't.

Of course, we aren't talking about Georges Laroque. But, it only takes one certified heavyweight. Trouba doesn't seem to be much of an intimidating presence. Tony is tough, but do we want him fighting or taking on Tom Wilson?
I love what Lemieux brings but he isn't an enforcer.
Bottom line is this team has a few disposable players on the roster. Why not use one of those spots on a guy who can strike a bit of fear into the opposition?

because enforcers don't belong in the NHL and the closest skater to an enforcer in the league (Wilson) is a unique player that the sport will likely never see again and even he took a few good slugs from Lemieux.

Guys, let's hit the pause button here for a second.

It's Ryan Ellis.

Ryan.

Ellis.

Even if we had a magnificent beast who could both fight and play at a level that warrants attention across the league, Ryan Ellis isn't dropping the gloves with that guy.

Now, ADA might go after him, Lemieux as well. But this really isn't a situation where there's someone who needs to be brought in as pugilistic specialist.

Meh, not really. Sure, the league has evolved into one where roster spots aren't being used for strict enforcers, but there are plenty of guys who will drop the gloves at a moments notice to protect their team mates and they can play a fourth line role.
With the make up of our squad, one of these type of players would be invaluable.

Plenty of other cheap shots to go around last night. Fabbro acting like he was a tough guy. Ekholm bench pressing his stick into Kreider's back over and over gets away with two minutes.
Give me all the skilled guys, but add to that the heavy enforcers and you've got a pretty good recipe.

People used to make him sound as if he would be a "50 goal player" instead of a 40-50 point player which he most likely will peak at

I am not sure what having Haley (if in the lineup) or someone attempt to start a fight with Ellis would accomplish other than putting us on the PK.

McKegg is worthless. Smith is worthless.
At least wood is young and tough. He can skate like the wind and did put up close to 20 goals a couple of years ago.

Chara is still the most feared guy in the league.
And Wood is worthless.

He skates fast in straight lines and is really good at getting punched in the face. He does absolutely nothing else. There's a million better options.

And that's fine. Let's get one.

I'm not a Drew Doughty fan, but what he said this week is absolutely true. I'm not stating this as a knock against guys who haven't played at a reasonably high level, but if you haven't, you wouldn't get it.

You can't find HF-Boards Rangers? I doubt that.

He's not a 40 goal guy either if we are being pedantic about my non-verbatim hypothetical for the discrepancy for his perceived play vs. his formerly expected play.

If he's considered a 50 points player as he should be, it's not so surprising that he "flubs a lot of shots" to which the OP of this chain referred.

I fail to see why the option must be to either 'turn the other cheek' and hope the refs call the penalties or to have an enforcer. Why can't there be a middle ground where the team is able to deliver hits on a regular basis and impose their will a bit when pushed? Like within the rules of hockey, hitting is allowed where you actually aggressively finish a check.
