That being said, I miss the days of Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. They were my favorite duo. Maybe it's nostalgia. Who knows. I have childhood memories of playing The EA sports NHL games on my SNES and those two doing the commentary. Sigh.

Thorne does a fantastic job on Baltimore Orioles telecasts...he gets just as excited for baseball as he did for hockey!
 
TSN is carrying the series up here, unsure if they will have their own announcers or just take the NBCSN feed. I'm hoping its the first option.
Not a Doc fan personally.

Bob Mackenzie is funny too. Thinks the Rangers backed into the playoffs cause of the Florida loss and that we 'struggled' to beat the Canes. Meanwhile we went 8-2 down the stretch. Last season, LA backed in to the playoffs, they lost 5 of their last 8, but a few of them were OT/shootout losses. How did that turn out?

Gary THorne, he was a Devils guy, Clement was a Philly guy. I liked them in the 90's. Emerick? he's an absolute Devil guy, always will be. The fact that he says 'shovel shot' when someone takes a wrister, just ruins it for me all the time. Its like Chris Berman saying a nickname for every play that happens during the game. You know what, just call the game, real hockey fans don't care about the 'colorful' terms for every fart that happens on the ice.
 
It's Doc's voice and vocabulary that annoys me. It's to squeely. And just call the damn game.

There is sentiment that the Senators can go on a run because of the return of Erik Karlsson, and the fact that Craig Anderson has proven he can get white hot.

Simply amazing what Ottawa accomplished without Karlsson, Anderson and Spezza for large portions of the season.

I agree, but the playoffs, totally different animal. I can't remember, someone help me out, when was the last time a team missing their top Center and leading scorer went to the Conference finals. I don't recall that ever happening.

Yup.

I wish they'd give the reigns to Forslund and Strader at this point, but the Rangers homer in me would take Kenney Albert and whomever does a decent color.
 
as someone who's out of market i dont care whos calling the game as long as i get to watch it on tv and not have to watch it on a stream. i think it was a travesty that the nhl was the only major sport without all the playoff games being nationally televised.
 
Dont mind Emrick and Edzo at all. Ranger homerism and nostalgia aside, that duo blows Rosen and Micheletti out of the water.

I also didnt mind the Thorne/Clement tandem but, dear Lord, I guess time heals all wounds because they certainly had their warts as well. Clement was a huge Flyers homer at a time where it was all too easy to hate the Flyers. And Thorne COMPLETELY blew Matteau's game 7 OT winner vs. the Devils -- started screaming about NO MORE 1994. Cringeworthy.

All in all, this is the fastest game on earth and its not an easy job.

I think Emerick can be pretty bad at times. Forget the 'colorful' expressions, there are times he goes off on some anecdote and totally misses important calls in the game.

Eveyone got it wrong about Thorne saying '1940 is history !' (JD called 'no more 1940!' after game 7).

Meaning, 1940 was not a curse holding them back from winning that series, he didn't mean the Cup was won so 1940 is history. It was in the moment, as a 19 yr old I still understood what he said.

I'm just gonna have to completely disagree with this. I like Doc but man his voice is sooo annoying and piercing. Never liked Olczyk, never will
 
Emrick blows Rosen out of the water? In what world? Doc is a great guy and very knowledgeable but his voice is nails on a chalkboard bad and his vernacular is obnoxious. He has the skill to call the game, though. Edzo lacks even that basic skill, easily the most dull color guy in the league.

On, a side note. If the Rangers can take one in Washington, I think the Rangers win in 6.
 
Had a dream last night that Callahan went down in game 1 with a non-contact leg injury. I was devastated this morning until I realized the series hasn't started yet.
 
There is only one way for this team to get respect from the analysts and that is to win a series. Once that happens some of these turkeys will change thier tune. Untill that happens this club will continue to be judged as the the high expectation team that couldnt put it together.
 
Looking around the boards I see people spelling Marc Staal's name as - stall, stoll and my personal fave staul !

Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but its a huge peeve of mine cause there have been THREE Staals playing in this league for years. The Cap fans(thats where I found Staul) are the worst at this since they've been playing Eric STAAL for almost 10 years now !
