Anybody criticizing Kakko has no clue. Be thankful we finally drafted an elite forward and give him a chance to develop. Seriously, you guys need to chill. It doesn’t happen overnight. Be ****ing thankful for Kappo Kakko being a Ranger for the next 15+ years.

Elite players at least show flashes of brilliance during their rookie years. They might be 0.5PPG or so — but you can see that the guy will be a recular 70+ point producer. Maybe scouts overhyped Kakko — but I don’t see Svechnikov, Hughes, Dahlin or Heiskanen level talent.

spot on. Go look at what the stud 2nd overall picks have done as 18 year olds in the league. The barkovs eichels etc. Kakko is right on par with all of them. This is what it’s like for an 18 year old in the league especially for one coming to a new country. He’ll have ups and downs. If you don’t see the upside I don’t know wha to say.

I usually am a bit harder than most on prospects, but I’ve definitely seen flashes from Kakko. Wish they were more common, but oh well. He’s still 18.

I think his medical conditions are going to significantly affect in the long run. Frankly, as soon as I heard about them, I regretted the pick — though I don’t know if they explain his lack of fitness.
