Kakko is an 18 year old rookie going through his first season and has been fine. Not everyone comes in at 18 and dominates. I think we will see a significant step up in his game next year after a summer of proper conditioning and training.

I was chewed out by several NYR fans here in the preseason for arguing that he wasn't the favorite for Calder. So I'd contest the claim that no one thought he'd come in and dominate.

It's a pleasure of mine to read opposing team's game threads when they are getting outgoalied.

yeah he just can't skate, he looks like me in beer league after eating too much pizza before the game. He just has no gas. Idk wtf it is with him, he's been an elite athlete all his life.

DQ is running the top 2 lines into the ground every game

I agree, and that's no knock on him, he is coming from playing at an amateur level to the NHL and moving from Finland to NYC in the middle of a NYC winter, to those saying he's a bust, give the kid a break and give him time to settle in.

I don't disagree, but I doubt this is a factor - NYC winters are Honolulu compared to Finland winters.

Amateur level? He played in a professional league against men.

I got eaten alive this off-season for saying we shouldn't be penciling him in for 30-40 goals.

Almost no 18 year olds do that.

I thought he was in the adult league in Finland? Also, I don’t think anyone is saying he’s a bust — far too early for that — but he’s definitely not as NHL ready as scouts speculated.

Exactly.. Huge adjustment for him and at a very young age

The thing is with the puck you can see he has more skill than someone like Chytil but he just looks so sluggish and he gets gassed so easily, been this way since traverse city. Can't do anything out on the ice if you have no energy.
I think his medical conditions are going to significantly affect in the long run. Frankly, as soon as I heard about them, I regretted the pick — though I don’t know if they explain his lack of fitness.

He was. Liiga is 5th best league in the world after NHL, KHL, AHL and SHL.
