Pretty brutal attitude from Keefe that he didn't feel secure going into the 3rd period with a 3 goal lead against the worst team in hockey, and that he also didn't bother to do anything about it. That sends a pretty bad message

He probably had no idea what to do about it

Y’all are too sensitive lol.. I’d much rather be apart of a 1 in a million bizarre game like this than continue beating up on these crappy northern division teams. We will finish first or second in the division. The real season starts after that.

Anyhow.. Ottawa has some nice young talent. I’ll be rooting for them not to finish last
So how long are we supposed to “not be so sensitive”? Isn’t 4 years going on 5 a long enough period? smh
Bringing in a few veterans, granted one is a no-brainer 1st ballot hall of famer, whose best days are definitely behind them, appears, at least for now, to not be the answer. And it’s not like we have the means to go get some game changers.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but we owe this to the braintrust who decided you could be a true Cup contender by having 4 forwards take up half of the team’s cap.

He could have quit in a huff and begged Dubas to trade everyone and the whentvto Shanny and begged him to fire Dubas and then go to the board and begged them to fire Shanny and then gone to The board at BCE and begged them to sell the team to Atlanta.

That’s coming LOL

I agree 100% with this. Just look at our second line, 18 million on 2 player that can’t seem to make a pass or hit the net. I just don’t see how you can balance a team like that

Really? Which two are they?

My biggest worry out of this loss is that this will mentally unravel the Leafs and they'll sputter into a slump. Worse than that is that this loss keeps as a sticking point of doubt in every third period they hold a lead and they start giving up more and more.

Why would you resign him at all? Are you blind? The sooner we ship hom out the better. What a liability.

That was embarrassing. I'd say typical Leafs but how can it be, with all the additions and subtractions to the roster over the last few seasons.
How do you lose a 5-1 lead?
I actually had a gut feeling the sens would tie the game when it went 5-3 but Matthews would win it with a hatty, but what do I know?
I dont criticise people that are clearly better than myself at something but I hope they're beating themselves up and come back with a point to prove.

This team reeks of complacency or even entitlement for some reason. They need to get back to work.

I was starting to believe these type of embarrassments were a thing of the past with this team. Even if the Leafs had taken it in overtime this would have been a loss in spirit.

Exactly! The sad thing is, Marner is overpaid even though I think he’s worth it (maybe not overpaid, but you can’t pay 4 forwards what they’re being paid and expect to have a balanced team).
I would like to see Nylander get traded for another top 6 forward who’s also good defensively (like Hyman). Also, is Tavares really starting to decline this quickly? Too much money being paid for what you’re getting.
And Morgan seems to be getting worse defensively.
As well, is Andersen the goalie who can make those key saves when you most need them?

Frederik Andersen (G, #31) — The were a number of times Andersen could’ve stopped the bleeding when Ottawa was trying to make a game of it in the third period. Instead, he, like the rest of his team, crumbled when it looked like things weren’t going their way.
I’m not usually one to take a stroll on Narrative Street, but this seems to happen a lot to Andersen in high-pressure situations (i.e. the playoffs).

Jimmy Vesey (LW, #26) — He hasn’t worked on the first line. He hasn’t worked on the second line. He hasn’t worked on the third line. He hasn’t worked on the fourth line.

Its just one game.

I think the Leafs have enough ballast in their tanks to handle this and work it out.

The two who needed Hyman on their line. It’s like the O-dog said on Overdrive, they should be able to drive the line and get points.
I’m starting to fear that Tavares may be starting to decline quicker than everyone thought he would. If so, this team is in even bigger trouble than before.

Are we talking about last night or players with 12 and 15 points respectively on an 11-3-2 team?

Hard work wins over talent that doesn't work hard....

Third period:

Corsi: 19-18 Leafs
Shots: 12-10 Leafs
Scoring Chances: 11-9 Leafs

....and thats with the Sens getting that bizarre 4 min powerplay when Chabot kneed Hyman and Hyman clipped him in the face trying to avoid it.

Looks like the harder working and more talented team lost last night. Thats going to happen sometimes although the sheer amount of bounces the Sens got was comical.

Well, it really sucks being a fan of the team that usually wins the award for "Most embarrassing loss of the season" but at least we got it out of the way early, to an irrelevant team in terms of their playoff standing, and we still got a point at of it.

That said, Andersen has to be better. Tavares has to be better. Both of them were huge problems last night.

When you lose a game like that many players deserve criticism but Andersen's questionable play in big moments and inability to consistently shut the door continues to surface.

The scary part is this has happened in regular season and first round games. If this guy is having trouble overcoming these games, how exactly is he going to hold up if we were to play in an ECF or SCF? Imagine playing a game 7 OT with this guy as goalie?

Once things start to go bad, he seems to lose all confidence and starts swimming around his net.

Decent goalie and well liked teammate but doesnt look like the type of goalie you can trust in big spots.

This is a good thing, we played against really bad Western teams, kicked the snot out of them, we got cocky, thought we were the greatest team since sliced bread, we got fed a bunch of humble pie. IIRC Tampa Bay lost to Phoenix last year something like 7-1 or 8-1, don't recall the score but they got their butts kicked by a horrid team. A good Captain would have a closed door meeting, and tear the paint off the walls. There is no way we should have lost those last 2 games but we did.

Hopefully the last two games gets the team focused, no matter ho bad a team is they can beat any team in the league if you don't learn how to win a game. You have to know when to push the play and when to take the boring off the boards and out. JT had two horrid plays that led to GA. He has to be much better.

At the end of the day, we just lost a bizarre, one in a million game. Ultimately all it costs us is one point in the standings. Still nowhere near as bad as Columbus blowing a three goal lead in the last 4 minutes of an elimination game in the play in - and they rebounded by shutting us out the next game. I’m sure this game will be laughed about for a long time but at the end of the day we need to keep it in perspective.
