Meh, I see Lias make plenty of plays that Chytil can’t (or won’t), and vice versa. As they should. They were drafted a year ago. It could take years for either of them to fulfill even 1/2 their potential. Not 2019, 2020, years.

And just to be clear, to get where the Jets are now, they needed 7 top-10 picks. 10 years. If you think this process is going to be quick, or every pick agreeable, you’re going to have a really miserable time.

B, but...Chytil no peak next year, sign Panarin, rebuild over...

Can this season end now? I can't take it anymore.
Fantasy world........fast forward to draft day
Real world......50+ games remaining.

Larry and Loffen's world.......cant come soon enough, but should be interesting in the journey. Lots of swirling winds.
Just listen......there is a gush of wind coming today, i can feel it.

I don't give 2 ****s about wasting his performance. We needed the L not the half W. Could careless about his current legacy. I want a damn contending team. And we need to suck this year to help build that team.

Give me either a convincing win or a loss no in between ****.

I think some of our posters have memento disease. When they grunt a feeling via smashing their face against the keyboard, context such as what the plan for the year is and how outcomes at a given moment cause a cascade of events the the future, don’t even remotely seem to enter their neural networks.

What am I missing here?

In 21 NHL games at age 19/20, Andersson has 2 goals and 5 points - 8 goals and 20 points over a full season. This while mostly playing on the fourth line.

In 37 games as a 18/19 year old, Chytil has 6 goals and 12 points - 13 goals and 26 points over a full season. This while playing a lot on the fourth line.

I'm not exactly sure what we're lamenting. Would we feel better if they were posting 40 goals and 115 point paces in juniors?

Some would but it would just postpone all this bitching and moaning until later.

Hey you never know we got to studs in Kravtsov and Miller so how about Dach and Soderstrom (since Byram will be gone) or Podkolzin and Soderstrom. JG has to find a way to just give us one more middle to late teens first rounder. Will be hard as **** but hope he can. If Tampa wins the cup we can have another three first rounders. Maybe Kaliyev drops to 31...ok I will stop dreaming.
Not really that far fetched. Tampa winning it will certainly help in that......it wouldnt surprise me if Gorton packages Tampa's pick and our "extra 1st" coming from Hayes trade, (what we get for Zuccha, i dunno) in order to move up and have at least 2 picks in the top 10, kind of like what he did to secure k'andre last year. (Which i am still not sure was the best thing to do, but they loved the kid.....so who am I to complain)

Last year we needed MULTIPLE quality picks, this coming year we NEED 2 SUPER PICKS, and whatever else we can add. Fatten up the farm, so to speak.

I reiterate, just dont understand the Lindblom pick....but whatever.

I still don`t understand why they use them on the 4th line @Edge - is that one of the coach thing? :)
I understand many coaches think that their players need to deserve their ice time, but it should be based on talent level as well in my opinio. And think what they could have in stats if both were given top 9 ice time playing with more skilled players in the beginning?

But I guess different coaches have different views on the topic. But maybe we overvalue our top prospects since we don`t watch them train each day.

I think the mindset is to ease them into the NHL --- it's a very old-school approach. I think it works better for Andersson than Chytil, but I will also admit that it wouldn't be my choice/approach for either. Push comes to shove, I'd rather see both of them on the wing at this point, or at least getting shifts there. I get the sense that Andersson sees his useage increase in a post-Hayes world, so they're trying to get him comfortable there and not have to worry about switching him back from the wing in a few months. But I think there's a better balance to be had, personally.

Everyone should bank this game for when they go on another mini run against weak competition as a reminder of the difference between a true contender and a team in the midst of a rebuild.

Stay. The. Course.

(Also, I gave Strome a star because I thought he had [another] really good game, but in retrospect it should have gone to Zibanejad.)

Oh they won’t remember that at all on the next streak.

But half the fun is reading the nonsense.

I guess I'm just not disappointed with what I'm seeing --- it feels somewhat expected for kids their age. I like what I saw in their D+1 years, a lot. I think the transition for very young players into the NHL has been mostly okay. Of course I'd love to see more offense, but I don't know if I see that as a totally fair expectation coming on the fourth line.

In general, the entire team is starting to slow offensively as teams adjust to them. I guess it would feel more pronounced if I rode on the crest of ever wave and felt the highs and lows a bit more, but I think most things are progressing about how I expected.

This is what a rebuild looks like unfortunately. No **** this team is nowhere near the talent on display in Winnipeg. Zibanejad, Kreider, Chytil and Kravtsov, that’s what Gorton is building on. Andersson and Howden are 3rd liners in that equation. The defense is even farther away. People need to be reminded of how early the Rangers are into this process.
Dont need to remind me, and I am down with it. Just hoping by 2020 we are MORE THAN competitive. After this years "tank" and good drafting, adding Panarin could certainly fast forward things a little. But yeah, our defense really needs to excel, whether its who we have now......or newbies that should easily replace the "S" brothers in Smith, Shatty and Staal.
Hoping that Hank can survive until then.

Winnepeg has like eight guys who are genuinely frustrated when they go a game without scoring.

The Rangers have 20 guys who call their Mom when they get an assist.

He'd probably get fired but I wish Quinn had quoted you after the game.

I think people got a little too optimistic during the hot streak.... This is unquestionably still a bottom 10 team in the league.

The fact that we even made this a game, and almost won, is more than anyone can ask for. Yeah I know we blew a 3 goal lead, but did anyone honestly expect this defense to keep one of the best offenses in the league contained? Winnipeg has 4 forwards that are each better than any single one on this team

Hank once again is making us believe when we really have no right to.

A little too optimistic?

Winnipeg has a great roster. Their GM has done a sterling job building the roster. But how does he have Paul Maurice coaching them. Amazing. I bet they get bounced in the second round again and they get a new coach before it’s too late.

Yeah the scary thing is the Rangers aren’t even close to competing with the Jets, and I sincerely doubt the Jets even win a cup with their roster.

Hank is playing great this year, but lets go easy on the hyperbole.
Nobody should feel sorry for a guy who getting paid a ton of money and had a long run of playoff appearances and opportunities.
This is a young team that isn't very good. A team which Hank chose to be part of through the rebuild.

Can’t I sympathize with his unwavering naive optimism?

I'm going to operate under the assumption that the Rangers have 3 firsts again in this draft (hoping for 4, but we'll see).

To me, I think the focus will once again be on the second of those picks.

I think the Rangers probably pick around 5 or 6, and end up with their second pick falling around the 26 or 27 spot. I think they look to turn that pick into a high 20s, late teens pick. And live with the cost.

With Gordie Clark and company, I don't quite get the impression that there's the appetite to splurge and go with two top 10 picks. I think they like to see if someone high on their list falls, and then make a substantial, but not extreme offer to move up.

I could see them packaging a second to move up for 26 to 21 again. But I think two late firsts would probably only get you into the 15-19 range, and I'll venture that's probably a little too rich for the Rangers taste.

I'm fine too and seeing an improvement (in Lias) last night compared to the game in Montreal is something I could put in a plus column. He's definitely (and not unexpectedly) is fighting it a bit in his NHL transition, and if not for the injuries he'd probably had a chance to skip a game to take a breath and watch a game from above.

The revolving door defense lineup nightly is getting silly. No one seems to be wanting to grab a fixture of a starting job by the horns.

Lol, 2018 draft can be seen as a blueprint for what we should also expect in 2019.

As stated 2016-2019 drafts (own selections and through trade acquisitions) will define this franchise in 2020's

Show me sand the floor...

Now show me paint the fence...

Ay!

You are ready Lias-san...

I thought he was good in Ottawa, struggled in Montreal, and then looked better last night. In other words, he looked like a 20 year old rookie.

I often worry that we have these kids, especially Andersson, under such an intense microscope, that there's almost no way the kid could withstand that level of scrutiny.

But I also think that Quinn likes to bring in his younger talents slowly and try to soften the blow of the inevitable "come-down" when the pucks stop going in for young players. Sometimes it's a bit too cautionary for my tastes, but I "understand" what I'm seeing --- even if I don't 100 percent agree with it. In those scenarios, the odds of any young talent putting up eye-catching numbers is pretty slim. And, inevitably, putting numbers is the easiest way to gloss over holes and deficiencies.
