There is zero comparison between Dach and Lias in terms of skating. Dach skating has gotten better and better. I don’t consider it a weakness at all
They both have the same problem of being too upright when they're skating and don't generate enough power through their hips and lower body. This isn't the place to keep having this discussion, especially since Lias wasn't a problem tonight. His work with Strome led to him to forcing Trouba to give Staal the shooting lane and got us our 2nd goal. Where you and I will keep agreeing is that he's gonna be a winger long term, he should be getting a look with Mika, and that he has a great shot.

I think it's a little early to be throwing Lias under the bus. He seems to be getting better every game, atleast give him a year in the NHL before we start talking foolishness about how he was a bad pick. To me he still looks like he is nervous to make a mistake and is almost trying to do too much but he just needs to trust himself and he will in time. If people are worried about his skating I point you to Brian boyle and Kevin Hayes, both guys got a skating coach and changed their skating in an offseason.

How about just look at the facts?

2nd in most shootout shots faced, and still a save percentage that high.

To say he sucks in the shootout is just a stupid ****ing statement.

Wait, is someone trying to blame Hank for the Laine and Scheifele shootout attempts? Snap shots from in that tight are nearly impossible for a goalie to read, especially when it's from two of the best shooters in the league.

Everyone should bank this game for when they go on another mini run against weak competition as a reminder of the difference between a true contender and a team in the midst of a rebuild.

Stay. The. Course.

(Also, I gave Strome a star because I thought he had [another] really good game, but in retrospect it should have gone to Zibanejad.)

Is anyone else ready for a week off from this team? I know I am. Nearly 40 games played between Traverse and now and I could use a breather.

It's clearly evident this team doesn't have the depth to go on a deep run. They need to be fully healthy to stand a chance.

It took the thrashers\jets like 7 years to get to where they are today...figure either the wheeler trade or the byufegkin trade is when it started...then draft develop draft develop draft develop...and here we are.

Rangers are in year 2, at best, of this process.

I would be fine with this if I was confident they would be patient enough to actually follow through

I think people got a little too optimistic during the hot streak.... This is unquestionably still a bottom 10 team in the league.

The fact that we even made this a game, and almost won, is more than anyone can ask for. Yeah I know we blew a 3 goal lead, but did anyone honestly expect this defense to keep one of the best offenses in the league contained? Winnipeg has 4 forwards that are each better than any single one on this team

Hank once again is making us believe when we really have no right to.

100%. Hank stole us a point tonight he was mad sharp.

Pionk reminds me of MDZ as a rookie. Got some great talent and offensive instincts, but man oh man he is like a deer in headlights in the D-zone. As a side note, I'd love for him to get traded just so i don't have to hear idiots at the garden yell "PIONK!" like a donkey every time he touches the puck.

Damn straight. Then get me another high end winger. Is it too much to ask for both Dach and Podkolzin?

Yes. Both are top-10 picks with Dach possibly top-5. I don't see how we end up with 2 picks inside top 10.

I’m sorry but I have no idea how any watches Lias Andersson and goes “man great pick at 7 especially considering we are desperate for high end talent. That kid has all the tools to be a 60 plus point player in his prime”.

The kid has zero tools zero. We just can not afford to not get game breaking talent drafting in the top 7 picks again. Cannot do it. We’re going to have that chance again this summer and I’m terrified at what we might do.

I’m sorry I don’t want to keep bringing it up but I can’t get over it. He shows nothing that makes you go yeah I see it. He just has to put it all together. He doesn’t have the skills the size the skating to actually put together.

Lol

I’m not gonna say another word about him in this thread I promise. Just extremely disappointed that we blew another top pick. Just famous for never drafting elite forwards and we just threw another one in the bucket.

Anyway moving on

He's 20 and has 21 NHL games next to his name ffs.

Winnipeg has a great roster. Their GM has done a sterling job building the roster. But how does he have Paul Maurice coaching them. Amazing. I bet they get bounced in the second round again and they get a new coach before it’s too late.

Very good post.

And remember how Hayes looked at times his rookie and second season. Hayes was what 23 his rookie year?

I don’t know what it is — but the last year there have crept in a bit of a notion to this board that kids are what they are and can’t improve.

Zdeno Chara is like the best defender in the NHL post lock-out. I clearly remember his rookie season in like 97 or 98 or something, who has the Islanders brought in now? What a joke! He made Rich Pilon look like Bobby Orr. What is the relevance of this? It’s an extreme example but so many players does improve their game a lot.
