Ryan O'Rielly and Luke Schenn solve some serious problems currently for our team. Idk what the price would be... 1st round pick and Nate Danielson+ some player contract?

You want to trade Danielson AND. A first + for a 33 year old and a 35 year old? If this was 5 years ago I'd probably agree.

Faulk or Fowler would both be good gets imo. Not long term contracts and with cap going up both are decent cap hits (especially Fowler with some already retained).

I don't see how Fowler matches our window at this point. I want to improve the defense as much as the next guy but it needs to be thoughtful.

RoR is not worth a 1st plus Danielson...come on now

He'll go to Toronto for a bottom 5 1st rd pick and some B level prospect and a cap dump

Well maybe someone else but Danielson then, but I figured they'd want a pretty good prospect coming back. Ryan O'Rielly legitmately isn't bad still and very useful as a middle line center.

Schenn would just replace Holl.

I don't mind the idea of adding those two but if its going to cost me a 1st or Danielson, I simply don't do it. Trading both? Woof, that is terrible.

I'm watching seravalli on dailyfaceoff doing mock trades and seth jones came up. I'm sure it wont go well with some fans but if hawks are so desperate to get rid of him I'm liking him as a possible option

Hes played on horrible teams his career but I think he'd do better here and can log 25+ minutes a game and is under contract for 5 years. Would allow us to ease pellikka in for 2-3 years and use him as a ppl specialist

I'd only do it if hawks ate 25% though and he'd be at 7.125. Maybe wallinder+2nd rd pick+3rd+veleno+holl... wed have to make the salary work and moving wallinder would be ok with johansson pelikka being big pieces and still ha e buium Cleveland in the system

I no longer have any attachment to draft picks - I don't see any undrafted prospects developing soon enough to contribute significantly to this core. But I agree that it's not worth dealing those particular assets for essentially rentals.

Now if it's the other extreme and somehow a Tage Thompson or a Clayton Keller become available, I'll send multiple first round picks in a heartbeat. But Detroit's first choice should be to aim high for good players that fit the timeline long term, then to target solid shorter term help without breaking the bank.

Agreed. Those pieces are absolutely available for a mid 20s top 6 forwad/top 3 defender.

Yeah if we are talking long term contributor I am 100% ok dealing a 1st. I maybe consider Danielson in the deal only if we are getting an established young center back. He is what I consider our only true top 6 center prospect. I love Kasper but I strongly feel his offensive game is much better suited to the wing long term (he may still prove me wrong here). At some point Larkin isn't going to be a #1 center and we need to prepare for that or end up as a team with a massive hole in its lineup.

If we are dealing for any other position besides young center I would deal any other prospect (incl ASP & Cossa) before Danielson. I wouldn't rank him higher than ASP or Cossa, but we have Ed & Seider at D and we have Augustine in goal. Ammo is the only maybe top 6 center, and I still lean wing for him at the NHL level.

I am not dealing a 1st for anyone that won't be core contributor here for at least 4 seasons. Needs to at least be a DBC level deal (maybe not here for our hopeful cup years, but someone who legitimately helps carry the play).

I like the idea but have been uncomfortable with the risk.

Arguably his worst season this year. 2nd year of decline, big contract and Buffalo probably wants a haul, especially in division.

The upside is real but so is the risk.

Tough decision imo

Like I said I think the left side is a priority but with the way johansson has performed he can go back and dare I say maybe pair with seider if we made this deal??

Like I said depends if the plan is to see pellikka play a year in g.r. I'd rather that it's not the case but if he does then when he comes we can make him a ppl specialist and ease him in for 2 years and then switch jones on the 3rd pair for years 4 and 5

At that point your right would be alot of $ but I'm thinking our core group of guys will be signed longterm and the caps going up so we should be ok

If by then our 3rd pair is Johansson Jones or buium Jones I think wed be looking at a really stacked roster contending for cups with kasper danielson etc.. in and only better

Jones coming here and being a 30-45 pt dman playing a ton of minutes would instantly make us better

If we can get a 3rd team involved to eat a further 1+ and make him a 5.75 dman even better. Think in 2-3 years we'd have seider edvinsson Jones pellikka all capable of putting 40+ pts

It's all fantasy talk and like I said the left side is more important and I'd be really happy with k'andre miller so hopefully rangers miss the playoffs and then is have np if we get in to throw a 1st + wallinder + somethin extra to New York
