We ain't getting a 1st for a 1b goalie...come on

Move him now..start the tear down for next season

Times are different so maybe this is a bad comp but the oilers traded a 1st for dwayne roloson in 06 and it worked out very well for them.

If the Avs can get healthy, overpaying for a cheap quality goalie doesn't seem entirely farfetched. This is their cup window.

Semi off topic but Kevin Lowe had himself a real nice run that year that I find to be an interesting case study on team building. Traded for Pronger in the offseason and then added Samsonov, Tarnstrom, & Roloson at the TDL who all played substantial roles in upsetting the Red Wings and going all the way to the finals.

Interestingly, that team came out of the "mushy middle" for that run. They had missed playoffs 2 of the last 3 years. Starting the season, they played .500 hockey for the first 20 games and then got hot with Lowe acquiring the above mentioned players (pronger was acquired before the season had started). Their top scorers were Hemsky, Horcoff, Stoll and, Smyth who were all under a point per game and drafted 13th overall, 4th round, 2nd round & 6th overall (scored 70 points one time as a career high) respectively.

Roloson and Pronger in particular played out of this world against the Red Wings and throughout playoffs.

They say, "you gotta be good to be lucky and lucky to be good" and there is probably some truth in that. It was a bit of a rag tag group. They drafted and developed what would be mostly described as mid level players. Hemsky was extremely talented but had his own warts. In may ways, it was an unremarkable group bolstered by some key trade additions and they came within 1 game of winning the Stanley Cup.

Well, hopefully that filled the void of needing something exciting to happen off the ice for our entertainment value without taking on another contract that would've likely hurt us in the long run

I really hope no DRW fan wanted another older expensive depth dman for any reason...entertainment or other

Well now that he’s gone I wish there was a rumour out there that linked us with someone who might give us hope. I wanted Trouba but I need a replacement even if it’s total BS

Well I right about him choosing californa over detroit lmao dont blame him

Looks like verbeek will be yzerman's ballbuster lmao .... should have just held onto walman and the 2nd . Live and learn

Cant believe nyr didnt eat salary or give up any assets. Pretty ridiculous

If Yzerman isn't going to fire Lalonde there isn't much that is going to change. Yzerman is basically throwing the season away, I'd be pretty upset if I was a season ticket holder. I mean I guess you knew what you were signing up for, but with Yzerman you figured there would be some level of accountability, there certainly is for players like Jakub Vrana and Jake Walman from what I hear.

I'd be upset if I was a player. These guys are competitive and want to win. This season they are playing like they don't give a damn. And I keep saying that I think it started last year in March. Something happened that caused Fester to lose the room because the team played like they gave a shit up until that point.

Yes but for that extra year I doubt anyone would take Compher. Like wtf was Yzerman thinking with these deals? It's like he was possessed by the ghost of Holland. He really has been Steve Yzerlland
Yea I agree, moving Compher seems like a pipe dream at this point. Yea I don't know, I would guess not wanting to give out longer term FA contracts limits you to players such as this. He did try going with some reaches like Suter with less term, but those moves never panned out either.

In hindsight keeping walman as that rover D to replace Ghost. That was just a brutal off season by management but it happens
We lost 100 points on offense and didn't replace it. Like I don't know wtf the plan is if there's even a plan. We might as well just tank and let these contracts died. The problem is we are wasting Larkin's prime. We should then trade him and Cat if we are trying to tank...

Why did so many people want Trouba? Dude isn’t that great and skates like he’s in mud these days. He’s a variation of Chiarot and Petry. He would’ve been an expensive redundancy.

Honestly, this is a win/loss for me. The win is not having Trouba on this roster. The loss is that Wings management continue to suck at evaluating pros. No way we should’ve even been considering adding Trouba, much less getting to the point of preparing offers for him.

I mostly agree, though I do think Trouba is better than Chiarot and Petry. He's declining, but he's better. If we had been able to replace one of them with Trouba, I'd have been okay with adding him. Otherwise, I don't really want to add the third stooge to the mix.

Yzerman has finally woke up? So glad we didn't get the corpse of Trouba. And wtf is Anaheim doing lol. Give us Zegras for Veleno and Copp lmao

No, he hasn’t woken up. Sounds like Detroit was “trying to make it work” up until he was traded to Anaheim. Verbeek basically saved Yzerman from himself. Whoever Yzerman is listening to - perhaps himself - needs to be rehabilitated. The opinion that guys like late-stage Trouba, Holl, Petry, Compher, and Copp are assets to a rebuilding team is bonkers.

Lost gostisbehere and walman and replaced them with gustaffson and holl full time .. did anyone really not see this turd of a season coming??

I think its 26-27 when the nhl takes notice of us for good that leaves us in the final year of debrincat being a redwing. I'd 100% trade him now while we can still get something good for him

Larkin isnt going anywhere. If he does itll be when his no trade clause is gone. Theres a reason yzerman didnt give it his full contract. Next few years we"ll have multiple guys with nhl season experience in edvinsson kasper berggren + raymond and seider already there

Danielson and possibly likes of buchelnikov, lombardi, mazur, cossa, pellkka next year + possible top 5 -10 picks next 2 drafts

Then theres always assets and picks we can use later on .. 2nds,plante,wallinder,buium etc for deals + free agency ... it sucks but I'm sticking with it ... its 2026-2027

I do think chris ilitch is probably to blame for this taking so long as well as yzerman to some extent. All we collected of assets when we were rebuilding was a 2nd in the Marc Staal deal

I was bitching here to get Marleau off leafs for a 1st which I found out the day turned out to seth jarvis ... monahan contract off the flames in where the habs get the flames 1st this year

Wouldnt anyone rather have got a 2nd + laine for 1 year over tarasenko for 2 yrs ?we never collected assets and I'm sure ilitch had a say in yzerman going after the likes of compher and copp and told him we needed to start filling up Caesars arena thus making us pick later in the drafts sooner than we maybe should have by a few years

Kind of got carried away lol but ya jist of it is we'll suck for 2 more years lol

He made us better. He is a clear upgrade to our second pair, is only signed for one more year, and if need be we clearly could have still dealt him at some point for some cheap 25 yr old and a pick while retaining no salary ourselves.

On the plus side, Trouba being dealt might tell us that we could deal Chiarot if need be and even have multiple suitors.

That’s kinda what I meant by a “variation.” He’s better than what we have, but the question is how much. I don’t think it’s much.

He’s barely an upgrade. He’s a Rangers whipping boy, or rather was. You’re stuck in the past.

We also would’ve had to give up assets to get him, unlike Anaheim, because we would’ve needed them to take salary back or retain.

I wonder if we'll be in the market for Cam Fowler now. Odd man out in Anaheim, ten or so games shy of 1000, so we could hear some news after that point.

Having some of the same conversations we were all having in 19-20 is not what I was hoping for this season. My friend who follows the Bruins, has been relying on me since the Dahlin draft to update him on the top prospects. And I've been dreaming of a draft lottery win every season since as well.
Jumped over to Tankathon last night, Penguins won two lotteries out of ten, Wings moved up once to 2nd
