I mostly agree, though I do think Trouba is better than Chiarot and Petry. He's declining, but he's better. If we had been able to replace one of them with Trouba, I'd have been okay with adding him. Otherwise, I don't really want to add the third stooge to the mix.

Troubas wife gonna go ape poop on NYR management. She was the backbone to it all. Hahaha karma sucks

There's nothing she can do about it. If Trouba wanted to stay in NY, he should have played better.

NYR actually did him a favor by letting him pick which team to get traded to. They were going to waive him if he didn't pick a team.

didnt Drury already pulled the waiver threat on someone else with a no trade? Kind of a scumbag move if you ask me and I'd gladly call Drury a scumbag in public if I was trouba lol

I blame these GM's for giving out no trade clauses like candy. I dont even want to look at our own crop of guys but yzerman shouldn't be giving the likes of copp any no trade clause. GM's dont want those headaches restrain yourselves from your stupidities

Force change and limit a teams amount they can give out no trade clauses to like 3-4 and problem solved

The plan with all these middling signings the past 2 years was to trade them after their NTC expired in their final year when we were done with them but nobody knew they would be negative value contracts almost immediately

Ideally we got assets for Chiarot, Copp, Compher, Veleno and replaced them with guys on their entry level but alas

Why would the NHLPA agree to that? It's the players that want the NTC, and they negotiate it into their contract.

If a GM wants to waive a player with a NTC, that's their prerogative. Stevie actually already waived a player with M-NTC earlier this season.... Holl.

Why would the players agree to a salary cap? Shit happens ... shouldn't just be able to give out no trade clauses to just anyone

Should be reserved for the main guys so it doesnt get in the way of a hockey deal. Drury used the waiver wire as a threat to get someone to go and it's not the first time. Unless I get overpaid why would I go play for a douchebag gm that uses such tactics to get rid of guys

If a team had 4-5 guys per team would be a lot less of a headache . Larkin raymond seider kane debrincat . Done

I get what your saying from the nhlpa but its something the owners should push for to encourage more moves and less headaches. I wouldn't be opposed

the plan was not to get too good as it would have taken us to around 20th pick in the draft , and thusly seriously lessend the chances of drafting top half players like were hoping kasper , mbn and danielsson become .

My opinion, Detroit wanted retention to fit Trouba in.

NYR said no.

Again, my opinion.

I don't know, I think it reads more like the wings weren't in the bidding period.

Edit: regardless, whether we demanded something nyr wouldn't budge on or were never seriously involved at all, it seems we weren't one of the options he even had to choose from.

Seems like he wanted to be here and is kinda salty he is in Anaheim compared to that. Maybe I’m reading it wrong.

The reports are NYR had multiple trades lined up and gave Trouba his choice of which team he wanted to go to. He was said to have been given overnight to decide and he chose Anaheim. CBJ was one of the other teams apparently.

Thank goodness we didn't get him at full cap hit. I was only interested at half cap hit and Holl going the other way.

I haven't been super upset with Yzerman for signing plugs while the youth is still developing.

But seeing how the cap could've been used on Trouba, or if the team didn't have 7 defenders then Fabbro could've been had. Not being able to maneuver means missed opportunities.

Not a massive fan of Trouba, but he improves this defense. By alot if he replaces Petry.

Didn't people speculate here that Walman was traded to make space for something like this?
Petry/Holl/Gustafsson + 2nd and then you make space for Trouba.

Yzerman will always be there kicking tires but 50 percent retained and taking on some of our salary was always going to be a deal breaker. Rangers made the right move

If I'm not mistaken, Columbus was higher on the waiver priority than Detroit was in regards to Fabbro

and if players want to also be protected from waivers in the event that they perform poorly enough that their team is willing to waive them? NMCs are already a thing that exists that protects against that and they can negotiate for that instead

In hindsight keeping walman as that rover D to replace Ghost. That was just a brutal off season by management but it happens
It happens more consistently to our management than to others though it seems…all of our bottom 4 defenseman are bottom pair or barely in the league on other teams. Somethings gotta change I know that.
I wonder if we'll be in the market for Cam Fowler now. Odd man out in Anaheim, ten or so games shy of 1000, so we could hear some news after that point.
likely but he’s got 2 points on the season and makes a lot of money too. I think adding someone like Fowler is just treading tires in mud, or rearranging seats on the titanic. Flat out if we want to get better we are going to have to give up good draft capital and prospects to achieve it. It’s time to be aggressive, but at the same time I don’t trust yzerman with who he would add.

So what was all the hullabaloo about this past summer?

My impression was Walman was a locker room cancer and Trouba was available, but the potential deal was nixed apparently by Trouba…
