For all those wanting to buy big or sell big consider this question. What players on the wings are teams calling for, and do you want to move them?

90 percent of proposed trades here include Wings players nobody like here. Why would anyone want our failures?

Holl, Tarasenko, Veleno....etc. What assets do we have to buy or sell?

Mainly picks and prospects. Some of our depth guys might get us a 6th or 7th rounder.

Lyon might get a second but that's bailing on the season. Most other decent guys have term or high cost attached.

Let's face it, for a trade to happen teams have to see talent they want to aquire

More to the interest question than me really wanting to trade them but:

I think Veleno, Chiarot, Lyon would draw interest. Ras would be another one although he is someone I'd want to deal in a package for another player rather than just straight sell. Chiarot I think could potentially snag us a 1st or like a 2nd and an ok prospect. He is the type of dman people always end up overpaying for at the deadling. Veleno is probably a 3rd/4th (more freeing up a roster spot). Lyon I think would draw a 2nd or a 3rd.

Tank might interest someone if we did a 50% hold. He also has an NTC which is tricky. A 2ish mil we could possibly draw a 2nd.

Kane would draw interest if he was willing to waive his NTC, which I sort of doubt. I have no doubt Kane would have drawn a 1st if available, don't know now as a lot of deals have already been made. Compher is another guy I think would draw interest now that the cap is going up, especially if the Wings were willing to hold some salary for this season.

Dealing any of these guys (minus maybe Veleno) would be giving up on the season, but I also think not trading for any help is also throwing in the towel. So we should either go get some additional assets that can either be packaged at a later point to trade for a bigger name or make at least a couple of small moves as a confidence boost to the guys that we still think we are in this....

I agree that no one is taking Holl. He should have been bought out last summer. That was a terrible contract the minute it was signed. The Gus deal is only a slight step behind. These aren't even really deals where the cap going up can make them look better ala Copp/Compher.

Larkin+Tarasenko for Petey-Boeser

Who says no?
Me, and I like Pettersson.

If you move Larkin, it's total rebuild reboot time. Imo, Larkin needs HELP HELP. Get a legitimate 2nd line center I mean it's only been a need for 10 years? Costly but maybe even try and trade for someone better? Novice idea.

I forgot how much the lack of effort of reporting on conditional picks drives me crazy on days like today.

Is it a conditional 3rd that can turn into a 1st if he plays a minimum of 5 games?
Is it a conditional 1st that can turn into a 7th if he doesn't win back to back Conn Smythe's?
Widely reported it’s 1st round pick in 2026.
Only condition is top 12 protected.
If top 12 EDM can defer the pick and it becomes unprotected 1st in 2027.

Obviously, there are bigger problems in the organization than just the guy at the top.

It isn't exactly like it, but this is still too similar to the Holland era at the end. Tampa Bay hasn't missed one beat since Yzerman left. They still make the right choices between UFA/Draft/Trades/etc.

The guy at the top gets the credit but clearly there's 'levels', as the kids say, when it comes to people working within Tampa Bay and Detroit.

Yzerman's not particularly doing a "bad" job all around but he's not going really good either, his stuff just hasn't worked out in UFA and it's been rather conservative.

They're the Buffalo Wings. We're in the same place as those guys we make fun of.

Buffalo Wings make money, and they've got people's attention just winging it for a playoff spot. They've worked fans for two years in a row now, with a good setup in the offseason to sell more "hope".
To some degree I do feel like we are falling into the Buffalo zone a bit, as I'm starting to feel there is something wrong at the core of the Red Wings. Their lack of compete both with Lalonde and now is worrisome. With that said I will always call out that our draft capital has not even been close to equal with Buffalo. In terms of top 3 picks they've had: 1. Dahlin, 1. Powers, 2. Eichel, 2. Reinhart. They also have had 10 top 10 picks in the past 12 years. The Wings have never had a top 3 pick and only 7 top 10 Draft picks in the same amount of time.

I’d also add Soderblom to this list, I’d package him in a deal which would bring us someone who fits the window and has some term left on his contract

I don't think its even close to time to compare them to the Buffalo group. They've lost 4 straight, obviously that's horrible. But I wouldn't put last nights loss where they controlled 90% of the game as them not being competitive. Same with the outdoor game. Its also easy to look back and say they should've won, and controlled the game... but at some. point they need to do it too.

There's a middle ground in there and I think its probably that they're still a center and dman short from consistently winning these games consistently. I wouldn't be punting the season at this deadline but if there's a crazy offer for a guy like CHiarot? Sure go for it I guess, and hopefully move someone in that can play over Holl.

agree with your earlier post about players and their value in trades. I think a lot of guys we rag on would bring back better returns than we expect, but unloading them just for futures is a bad look to the room and I think we see them collapse. I think it would also hurt GR because we still have to ice a team and if we deal two or three guys off, well, their replacements have to come from somewhere.

I don't think we're not competing, though. I think guys are trying too hard and our team cohesion is breaking down. But considering the previous coach was Lalonde, that McLellan is really just trying to paste the team together with positive aphorisms and bubble gum, then they took a 2 week break where they didn't play or practice together, and then they lost their 2c and 3c to injuries....we couldn't even have calling Mazur up go well for us, losing him on his second shift to a freak elbow dislocation. It's been a really rough go lately.

For all of the talk about bringing in help to galvanize the room...I think just a win would do wonders. Hopefully they get one tonight.

It’s depressing to go on the Spectors trade rumour site and never see the Wings even mentioned as a possible destination for some of these guys

to be fair that's probably mostly just because of how quiet Yzerman is

I don't really expect much to happen today but I don't think a lack of rumors really tells us anything one way or another

I was unfamiliar with that site... but after reading it for 2 seconds, maybe you should quit looking at it?

"the Carolina Hurricanes haven’t granted teams permission to discuss a contract extension with Mikko Rantanen. A sign-and-trade scenario is off the table for now"
"there is no indication the New York Islanders intend to trade Brock Nelson"

....and Yzerman has a history of not letting things leak

Conversely, some fans, like you, are talking like the rumored first for Walman is somehow somehow added to the cost for the Wings of giving Walman up. Were you pissed too about how the Preds got a first for Patrick Eaves after the Legwand trade?

They are two wholly separate transactions. If Walman is dealt for a first now it’s because Edmonton likes what he did in San Jose
Again, justifying it.

It's ok to say "Yzerman didn't do well on this one", but some people make an excuse for everything. How dare anyone question the Lord and Saviour Stephen Gregory Yzerman. Shame on anyone who is critical of your Messiah.

Ooof, I would not want to trade for Rantanen. The guy is coming across as a major head case. He doesn't know what he wants, and he doesn't care if it hurts his team.

I mean he knows exactly what he wants, which is a ton of money. Guys of his ilk almost never hit the open market, so I don’t blame him for driving a hide bargain right now.

SY would never be in charge of my stock portfolio. The guy literally doesn’t understand the concept of buying low and selling high. Look at it. Look at all the free agents he signed and the assets he sold. Look at their value at that time. He buys high, sells low.
