No one ever said they were the same player. Your also making him out to be more special than he is. Dallas got rantanen signed and got 2 1sts and stankoven. 1st + nygaard is essentially 2 1sts throw in a plante +johansson or kiiskinen whatever, and a 2nd if need be its essentially the same offer

Sure the cap is going up but Marner isn't giving them a hometown discount. If the Leafs give him top money, 16 mil or more, they can't have much left to ice a complete roster.
Teams are, without a doubt, offering prospects like ASP for a 27yo top 10 player in the NHL.
There's zero chance in hell I give marner anything close to 16 mill this isn't the nba where you can give 2 guys 35-40 mill and expect to win
