I'm by no means a Petts fan but $5.5M AAV for a guy you expect to be a fixture on your blueline for years is pretty whatever. Especially considering the cap's expected to keep jumping.

They just better hope they get like 2022 Petts and not the guy we've seen when he's struggling badly. Cuz that Petts sucks shit.

That's 5.5 in Canada. 10% higher taxes there then here... So do some math... Calculator time... 4.95 x 6 would be the same contract here.

Dang. Kinda cheap even for Petts....

I guess Sullivan ruined his value? Idk. He ruined my love for this team for sure.

The issue is Vancouver thinks they are a contender.

I don’t think they want a future package if they move him and honestly based on their play last night they’d be moronic to make that type of move.
Yeah I'm not sold on Vancouver being a contender so that might bite them in the ass.

In the vacuum it's a good deal though. And if they do manage to be competitive with him, it's a good deal.

I suppose if they suck and Hughes ends up demanding out to go to New Jersey they probably won't have too much trouble moving MP in a few years given in the final three years it's only a partial NTC

My concern isn't cap space, even with Karlsson. It's attracting those top tier UFAs. With the cap going up I'm wondering if anyone wants to sign for three years and cash in again when the cap goes up

It would be very, very funny if the Canucks went from a win away from the SCF to losing all of JT Miller, EP40, and Quinn Hughes in the span of like 18-24 months.

I mean, he's a second pairing guy, he's going to struggle. A sizable chunk of the board has convinced themselves he's Larry Murphy 2.0 for some reason, hence the disconnect.

It's a perfectly fine contract for a guy that would be horribly overused here.

The money is fine for Petts. Going to six years and having that kind of trade protection is what's awful. His game is going to crater. The second his legs go he'll be useless.

Eh we got our usage out of Petts. I'm certainly fine not giving a guy 5.5 per that brings absolutely nothing to the table offensively.
Much rather have Petts on that contract than Graves on his.

Im shocked it was that low actually. I expected more on both length and cap hit. In 2-3 years 7mil is going to be the going rate for a mid pairing defenseman. This was Petts last chance to cash in and he took a team friendly deal again.
