Normally I'd ignore the Weekes' tweet. But Callahan's response has me intrigued.
Highly doubtful, but if there’s a trade with Colorado it’s not going to be anything all that useful…buy low young player that’s a shot in the dark and Sullivan will move him down the lineup when he “doesn’t play the right way without the puck”….because we don’t care about scoring goals…that’s not how you win in this league lol

Nothing I would like to see more than Sid to Avs and Geno to Florida, so that this mgmt can finally unshackled their beloved coach.

Nothing is happening with the Pens…Weekes’ tweet was a play on the constant rumors Sid is going to Colorado…not happening…nothing is happening lol…this is the GM who refuses to fire Sullivan…he’s not bold
Not convinced of that. Petts was gonna go anyway, and the Avs have 5.6M in cap space. Their GM is gonna be looking to reassure their fan base after this move.
Regardless, it doesn't really matter. Today or March, who cares? It's about assets for the future for the Pens.
My only question is who else goes?

Sounds like DOC will be traded too…

What is the Avs cap situation? They have 4 players LTIR. Puckpedia lists $5.6 million in space. But those 4 take up $12 million plus in cap. One day you hear Landeskog is close and skating with the team, then nothing. Not sure about the other 3.

Didn’t see that but I think there was speculation that Weekes tagged Callahan bc it was Lightning-related…Tampa’s 3rd pair LD is poor for a PO team so some speculation it was Petts for something back

Kylington is on regular IR, not that that matters too much.
2M of LTIR is eating into their actual cap space atm, since they've gone over the LTIR limit. If Landeskog returns, what will surely happen is he will only come back for the playoffs, when cap doesn't matter.
That would leave them free to spend this 5.6M now, or maybe a little less if Wood or Poolman return before the playoffs.
They're only at 46/50 contracts atm, so no problem there either.

Just did a lil more searching. Poolman is going to miss the whole year again due to migraines.
No definite timetable for Landeskog's return. Probably for the playoffs. ;)
Wood could return tonight.
So not really any issues for them. Especially if they use Necas as 2C and move on from Middlestadt and his nearly $6 million.

Why Imama tho? He's an AHL-caliber enforcer.
You answered your own question. He fits our 4th line like a glove.

Yeah, apparently the Draisaitl deal set the market and that's what Rantanen was aiming for but Colorado wasn't gonna pay him more than MacKinnon, and they have a Makar deal coming up.

Trade seems good for both teams tbh.

Because you can give him an NHL paycheck for a few days while he sits in the press box and then send him back down without any issues. Meanwhile their real prospects can continue playing meaningful minutes.

And if you have to play him, he can skate around for 8 minutes.

It sucks that Pickering had to go down, but he's the only one who doesn't have to clear waivers and the Pens needed a body ASAP. Anyone else would have to take 24 hours to clear.

While Imama won't be up for long, looks like Pickering won't be back for a little bit. Get ready for more Ryan Graves:

“It’s our responsibility to make sure that we make the best decisions for Pick and his overall growth and development,” Sullivan said before Saturday’s game in Seattle. “He played very well for us for a period of time. His game has not been trending in the trajectory that he had been on for a number of games now.”

He added: “It’s not anything unusual when you look at a 20-year-old defenseman that is trying to find their way in this league. ... We’re ecstatic with where he’s at and where he’s come from. And we’re excited about where his game could go moving forward.”
