This covers so much of Boston's long history that it's impossible to tell exactly who you mean without context.dope from beantown who's been Mediocre outside of an 18 month span.

Yeah I think Schaefer is the only one in the draft that’s a real game breaker, but Hagens is going to be a great player at a more important position. Not the best year but would be happy to have either of those guys.Schaefer has huge potential.
Hagens will likely be a 1C.
I would have no problem adding either of those two to this prospect system.

It was over as soon as we traded Jake. He’s on pace for 84 points. Has more goals than Sid and Geno combined.
It’s sad but he was never probably appreciated here because he wasn’t a physical player.
To put that into perspective he’s on a similar pace as Aho, Nylander, Panarin, Suzuki… Try removing those players from their teams and see how much it hurts them.
Honestly adding them wont make us any better now anyways. Draft one keep them away from the team and bottom out again to get Mckenna.
This team isnt going to tear it down but they aren't going to try and get better between now and next year either.
This team is never going to tear it down under Dubas. So you better hope they get a top 5 pick this year tbh.
Certainly a reductive way of looking at it. It’s probably more accurate to say Rakell and Bunting are doing better because they’re playing higher in the lineup then they should be, and as a result Sid/Geno are scoring less because they have to work harder to create space for their teammates. He has 2 more goals than Rakell, whose production has exploded since replacing Guentzel on L1 with Crosby.
Their top-6 winger production wasn't much better last year with Guentzel than it is this year without Guentzel. Rakell exploding on L1 and Bunting doing better with Malkin this year than Rakell did with Malkin last year makes the difference in production fairly small.
Not having Guentzel obviously made the team worse, but losing Guentzel is pretty low down the list for why this team is ass at this point.
How is Rakell playing higher than he should be? He's been a top 6 wing for 10 years.Certainly a reductive way of looking at it. Yager's only 9 months younger.he wouldn't have traded Yager for McGroarty.
No, what is most accurate to say is that Rakell fits significantly better with Crosby than Malkin, so Guentzel being gone allows Rakell to slide onto Crosby's LW and be as productive as he has been. Rakell's best season in the NHL was when he was playing LW with Getzlaf and Perry, so it shouldn't be surprising that Rakell exploded when he was moved to LW with Crosby and Rust.
The Penguins are getting basically 85% of Guentzel's production out of Rakell in Guentzel's spot. Bunting has been a step up on Rakell on L2. Rust has been equal to what he was last year. The net total is a slight decrease but a slight decrease in top-6 winger production is so far down the list of issues with this team.
He is but he’s still a major drop off from Jake, and could provided depth at the position. How is Rakell playing higher than he should be? He's been a top 6 wing for 10 years.
He put similar amount of points up with Sid and Rust just three seasons ago.Guentzel is playing on a line with Kucherov and Point. Of course he is scoring and I am happy for him.
Claiming that we didn't appreciate him is rewriting history, though. We liked him just fine except when somebody decided he should net front presence on the PP and shockingly this galaxy brain move backfired.
Well, except for wins. But what do those matter. Also the "Crosby and Malkin are scoring less because they have to work harder to create space for their linemates" claim is bizarre because Crosby's production decrease is due to a sharp drop in goal scoring. Crosby is getting a higher assists/60 this year than last year, but his overall production is down because he's only at 6 5v5 goals due to a 6.06% shooting% at 5v5.
His 5v5 expected goals are 12, which would both have him at a career normal shooting% (12.1% at 5v5, 13.8% overall) and would put his yearly totals at 20 goals and 58 points in 51 games. That's a 93 point pace, when he had 94 points in 82 games last year.
L1 has taken a small hit from downgrading from Guentzel to Rakell, but there's pretty much nothing in the stats that I can see that suggests it's a significant step back. That decline in L1 pales in comparison to the decline in basically every other facet of the team outside of special teams.
Sid’s on pace for 22 goals in 82 games. By far his lowest. That is absolutely correlated with the talent he’s playing with. So he’s Rakells number are artificially pumped up, but at the expense of others.
Rakell is on pace for 68 points and shooting 7% above his career shooting %. He’s due for a regression and really not that far off of from the 60 he had two years ago.
Please stop saying “exploding”
15% is a large difference.
There are a lot of smart contributors here which makes it so confusing as to why this groupthink around Jake has occurred.

But if expected goals says otherwise what do I know?

You might want to check the posts. Nothing about my posts suggests I’m upset. You're claiming this with literally no basis for that.
Not only that, but your argument here is completely hypocritical regarding Rakell and Crosby. Crosby is shooting like 5% below his career normal and about 7% his career normal at 5v5. But apparently Crosby's decline in goal scoring is due to his wingers, but Rakell's improved shooting% is just an outlier?
Glad to know that Crosby's line is playing in net for them! Damn Crosby's line, they should be helping their goalies have a better save%! It's almost like you should have read the second sentence there of:
"That decline in L1 pales in comparison to the decline in basically every other facet of the team outside of special teams."
Again, you've been complaining about trading Guentzel for the last year. It is so painfully obvious that you're still upset with it and will come up with any illogical argument to justify bringing it up and complaining about it.
Who exactly believed otherwise on this forum? My point was as soon as we did, we were no longer in a position to compete. It was naive to believe otherwise.
