I wish there was something to read into there but there's not.
I think that deal is killed a bit by us claiming Kolyachonok. We are fairly flush with dmen right now:
POJ-Letang
Gryz-Karlsson
Graves-Desharnais
Kolyachonok-Shea
So I have to assume at least ONE of them is gone by the TDL. Even then, you have 7 guys with Pickering in the AHL. WBS (when healthy) is pretty flush with dmen too. Glass on the other hand is someone I think they are looking at to be a transitionary player. Once Malkin is gone, unless we score a FA or high pick prospect, Glass is your 2C.
If the goal is to get Pono a slot, which I support, I think he simply fills the spot that opens up when they trade Beauvillier, which seems as inevitable as the Gryz trade. If you want Heinola, give Winnipeg the 4th or 5th. I think it's unnecessary to lose Glass for a #7/8 at the moment given how short handed we are at center.
I think that would be a solid addition for them. Really solid.
Glass probably won't even be in the organization next year, let alone being talked about as a 2C replacement for Malkin.
Grzelcyk will assuredly be gone at the deadline and the team has no confidence in Graves. They can let Pickering play the rest of the year in WBS with POJ, Kolya and Heinola as their LD.
