North Bay Battalion 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

And I re-iterate, get JB18 OFF THE POWERPLAY. On PP1 and pass the puck to no one multiple times… and who’s scored our only goal tonight? Greer. PP2 creating more in 30 seconds than PP1 has all game. JT6 made it 1.5 periods playing good offensive hockey, and is now trying to fight anyone bigger than him. RS20 with a great fight… we’re not making the playoffs.

The only thing worse than 1 LeBlanc on the PP, is 2 LeBlancs on the PP. CLUELESS !!! We have to have 2 of the worst O/A' in the league.

Maybe even sadder is coach Oulahen marching these guys out there every time. Lots of guys on the bench, some draft eligible, that deserve a shot on the PP. Wake up coach.

I like A.Leblancs puck carrying game because we have a hard time with zone entries and getting to the net, but he’s not PP1 calibre. Carey/Vaughan should be getting PP1 time to grow their game. Greer is the only true offensive Dman on the team and by far the highest hockey IQ on the blue line, he should be there without a question. At this point I’d honestly be running Enright or Manzo over Leblanc on the powerplay. We’ve scored 5 goals in the last 4 games…

A lottery win and nailing the import pick that comes with it would be ideal. I don’t think NB ends up in the lottery though. But developing in a competitive environment learning from good vets is better than being in the lottery imo.
I think the development of the Petes three ‘07-1sts was stunted by experiencing little more than losing for most of the 2024 calendar year.
Peterborough's team is still currently the 3rd youngest team in the league. Rarely are 17 year old's looked at in the OHL to be the ones that lead there team to the playoffs but the experience they have in those down years - can be valuable- **IF they are coached the right way . Teach the young players how to play the right way for 60 minutes. Teach them discipline, teach them how to protect a lead. As Major Jr team- You're always looking to be successful when the bulk of your team is 18-19 year old seasons. Lets take a look next year at this time and see where Peterborough is sitting & how their 07's are performing.

The young Petes have learned to be good at chipping the puck off the boards and glass without icing. From January ‘24 to acquiring Bryant, the Petes were completely overmatched and played only to limit goals against. Creating goals was pretty much limited to the PP.
Vets keep developing players from being over exposed lowering the chances of injury. Vets help with development.

A team with one drafted player playing a team with thirteen drafted players means the outcome isn't really a surprise but the Battalion pace of one goal per game doesn't give fans much to cheer about. It likely means attendance down the road takes a hit.

Solution......fix the PP.

I never said Vets do not help with development- My original point was that a team making the playoffs and having 4 games playoff experience is not gonna make a difference especially if they are playing a limited role. You then brought up the Pete's who are still in rebuild mode with the 3rd youngest team in the league & a bulk of 07's who besides the top NHL draft projections rarely make a massive impact on the team. Patience is something that needs to be learned when it comes to a rebuild. North Bay is just over 1/2 a season into theirs, Which has been a major success from a hockey outlook. They now have 3 08 First rounders in Vaughn, Cali & Carey. They have almost a PPG 2007 forward in Moses. 4 07/08 Defenseman. Let the kids play & learn the results will come.

I know of people who didn’t purchase season tickets this year just because they felt the team wouldn’t be as competitive…. Although I disagree with that mentality, many have it and in a small market we need a competitive team. I notice this year it’s Marquardt managing the powerplay, and so far not liking what I see. The nowhere drop passes need to stop, and the slow cycle need to stop too. The umbrella passing cycle is so slow it’s like watching a bantam house league game some nights. Our dump ins as well, weak. You watch London, they dump to the left side hard and ring it around the boards with 3 players falling right to regain possession. We take light deflection dump ins with 1 forechecker and play 4 back defensive, even down 2 goals with 3 minutes left in the 3rd. The players all young and will do what they’re told by the coaches, whereas last year the older team would go rogue and make their own plays/decisions. The coaches need to adjust our incredibly predictable game if they want these kids to grow, because right now they’re stagnant. No confidence in 40 light shots on net and 1 goal per night.

Is Chukharev ready for OHL play......I don't think so 🤔
Carey was wide open for a breakaway behind the D, Chuk chipped it off the boards to the right…..

Long/Smith better to have in the lineup…. Long creates a lot of offense in the 3rd and 4th pairings…. Not a finisher but can sure drive the play

Fellas, care for a good laugh. Check out the Sudbury blog…..Priceless
Sudbury is hilarious. Villeneuve, Musty, Street, McCoy, and now Mews. It’s like they purposely bring in whiners and unsportsmanlike entitled kids to lose. They start losing and melt down, no heart, no leadership, just brutal. The best part is, the GM is just as bad, and the owner of the team is a do*chebag too. Then, you get Northern Ontario’s wasteland dumpster fire of a city to play in, and a fan base that will tear kids apart for their shortcomings because Vale told them to work more than 2 hours a day. The most unsportsmanlike and annoying fanbase in the CHL. WTF is that water tower about Dario? Worry about cleaning the needles underneath it first bud
