If Kyle could turn his mistake of EK into Pinto a 1st and a 2nd, I'd never make fun of him again. Too bad that random guy on twitter doesn't run the Sens.

Yeah for real. Kyle starts pulling trades like that and I promise I won’t make fun of him at recess anymore.

I think a firesale's needed tbh but I'm not really gonna have any more than a cursory interest in this team until Sullivan's fired. Regardless of whether they tear it down to studs and bolts and go full rebuild, or try to cut corners and retool on the fly. Nothing really matters until Sullivan's gone.

This is my thoughts too. I just find Sullivan’s vision of the game to be stultifyingly boring. The only reason those Cup teams were fun to watch was because the stars were playing out of their mind.

The first one was way more fun to watch than the second one imo. Wingers were super aggressive all the time forcing turnovers all over the ice. The second cup was a lot of 1-2-2 and most games weren’t nearly as fun to watch. Some of the Ottawa games were brutal to watch. Not having Letang for that run probably played into that too.

Yeah, it was a hell of an accomplishment, but it's not a style of hockey I like watching, and I'm not one of those people who can watch boring-but-winning hockey. I think it's an abomination.

What about boring-but-also-losing?

In all seriousness, boring-but-winning is fine by me for the playoffs, but it's a slog of an 82 game regular season to get to that point. What we're living though is the worst of both, though.

I mean, I guess. I'd hate to see us become the trap-era Devils just to say we "won" by having an absolutely awful product that just exploits some blindsides in the rules.

But there's no reason we have to play a boring style of hockey, except for the fact that Sid and Geno won two Cups with it a decade ago. Teams should change their style to suit who they have, not continually cling to an outdated idea of what they play that doesn't even reflect what their rosters can actually do.

Our defense without EK65 would be so, so, so bad at transitioning the puck. Factor in the age of our core and it’s even worse.
And? Our D is already in the bottom 5-10 of the league. It’s putrid. Why would we keep Karlsson if someone wants him? We suck with him, we can suck without him.

Think that'd be more detrimental to our offense as his statement alludes. Which atm is 13th OA though propped up by the power play.

Is the team really boring at this point? They're scoring a ton, they just can't play defense and their goaltending sucks.

Why should we care about the team getting worse in the short term. Isn’t that the idea? If someone was willing to give us a package like that for EK and we turned it down, we’d deserve to be the next Buffalo Sabres.

I’d be all over this lol…

I think the best case scenario for an EK trade right now is retaining a bunch and getting a conditional 1st based on team success. I proposed Karlsson at $5 million for Dumba, Bourque and a conditional 2026 1st (2nd if the Stars don't win the cup) on the main boards but it felt too rich for the Stars.

I think something in that setup (Karlsson with significant retention for a dump RHD, a prospect and a conditional 1st/2nd) is a good estimate for what he'd bring back. That prospect just likely won't be someone as good as Mavrik Bourque.

I’m showing 8 OA by points %?
Offense. GF.

I'd trade him instantly if no positive assests have to be attached in order to move him. Even if it costs heavy retention. 2 spots open up in the off-season.

Just for laughs:

1. Karlsson at $5 million and O'Connor to Dallas for Dumba, Bourque and a conditional 2026 1st (turns into a 2026 2nd if the Stars don't win the cup in either 2025 or 2026).
2. Pettersson to Edmonton for Stecher, Akey and a 2025 2nd
3. Rakell to Minnesota for Johansson, Heidt and a 2025 2nd
4. Grzelcyk (3rd), Beauvillier (4th) and Johansson (4th) traded for picks.

Koivunen-Crosby-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Tomasino
McGroarty-Bourque-Bemstrom
Lizotte-Glass-Acciari
Hayes-Nieto

Joseph-Letang
Pickering-Dumba
Graves-Stecher
Shea

Nedjelkovic-Blomqvist

Heidt, Akey, a conditional 1st/2nd, 2 2nds, a 3rd and 2 4ths added to the prospect pool while Bourque is a young NHLer.
