Penguins are going to have a fire sale.

Just like last year!

I saw Marco D'amico posting it this morning, I just hope KD puts his big boy pants on and has a plan for a change. This organization needs a plan first and foremost, and if that plan doesn't include 87-71-58 so be it! But like you said, I'll believe it when I see it

It clearly says in the article Sid, Malkin, Rust, Tomasino and Pickering are the untouchables.

So basically EK and Letang are on the market. And nobody is going to want them in season.

I was going to post that til I saw D’Amico was associated with montrealhockeynow lol. The TSN appearances notwithstanding.

Honestly I think the more likely trade target worth discussing is Bunting. Between his contract, recent production surge and play style (namely him being a great net front PP guy), I could definitely see teams dishing out a nice return for him.

I wouldn't trade Bunting unless I was getting a 1st for him, the Wings got that for Bertuzzi and I feel the Penguins should get something similar in value for Bunting.

That’s not really the question since his cap hit is 5.3M (which is like 4.1 in the minors)

More about if you want the cap charge of 800k for 3 years longer than his deal runs
With the cap going up. 800k isn't a big deal. Also who we spending money on?

Maybe if we got a Marner or something then that would matter. Only year 2 of the buyout matters and only by a bit.

Why trade him? He's a young guy that could potentially develop into a top-6 F.

I'm not advocating trading him outright just to trade him, but to say he is untouchable if another team comes looking for him is stupid. Every player on this team should be made available, depending on what the return is, and if that player has a complete NMC they are unwilling to remove.

We all know Edm and Buffalo are probably on MP's no-trade list lol.
I imagine for a few months Petts would go to Edmonton to get his value up. Imagine being an important Defensemen for Edmonton with a deep playoff run. That sounds like cha ching.
I wonder if DOC having such a shit season is going to lead to the Pens re-signing him instead. Can't possibly have much value now.
I see him getting a 3rd. Maybe a 2nd if it's years out.
I cant wait to see what crap return Dubas gets for Pettersson after the crap he acquired for Guentzel.
We can disagree. It wasn't crap.
Yeah you'd have to be silly to complain about the Guentzel return right now for the Penguins. That doesn't mean it will end up great for them, but it is looking good for them right now.

Between:

1. Rakell exploding in Guentzel's old spot and putting up a ~70 point pace on L1 with Crosby at LW
2. Bunting putting up a ~60 point pace mostly on L2 with Malkin
3. Koivunen being one of the top scorers among AHL rookies
4. Brunicke looking like a stud and nearly making the Penguins out of camp
5. They also got Ponomarev and Lucius in the deal

What is there to complain about with the Guentzel deal? I honestly don't see anything they're missing from it. They've replaced like 85% Guentzel's production with Rakell, Bunting is producing well in Rakell's old spot on L2 and the prospects are progressing well.
Agreed. It's a weird hill to die on that instead of getting a late 1st we got a mid 2nd with extras. If Bunting gets us a late 1st or let's say 2 2nds then Dubas clearly did a great job on that trade.

Remember when we got paid a 2nd to take Kevin Hayes and Montreal got paid a 2nd to take Patrik Laine...

Our GM is seriously a f***ing moron.
I am unsure if the Jackets would have given us Laine for a 2nd.
I don't mind the return for Hayes. Lower cap hit same amount of years. We got a 2nd and 3rd.

LOL Tomasino is an untouchable?

It's probably more about we can sign him cheap and we need someone on our team to play Hockey for us.

That's what ufa is for, signing crappy players( in kyle's case) or good players to over-bloated contracts. Sign Marner. Sign Ehlers. Hell sign em both!
If you are sending out too much and only replacing 1/3 the talent they won't be doing right by Crosby.

And like I said before, why would Marner want to sign here?

I absolutely need Letang traded if for nothing but the lolz. The coat-tail ride is over buddy. I'm already annoyed you're going to get a jersey retirement

Same reason the majority of ufas sign where they do...

1. You need guys to fill out the roster.
2. Tomasino would have more value if they develop him well and sell him as a top-6 forward than the ~3rd rounder they'd get for him now.

"Rebuilding" doesn't mean "trade off every single asset the organization has for draft picks".

Coat-tail ride? He's been one of the best defensemen in the league for most of his career...

He was a big part of us and honestly signed at good cap hits for us.

Wish Letang nothing but the best.
