Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXV - Poolman and Poolparty?!?

I mean yeah, Brunicke's upside is a fringe #2/3 defenseman while McGroarty's upside is a fringe 1st/2nd liner. I don't think anyone would disagree there.

I think both guys have "core" potential but not "franchise" potential. That's a pretty major piece to get back for a rental Guentzel.

It’s also best case scenario.

I dunno. The return was quantity over quality and largely makes no sense given Dubas’ suddenly pivot to tearing it down.

My post was quite obviously saying that IF Brunicke becomes that it's a good return.

I think you guys are being contrarian at this point just to be. I admitted we don't know yet if that's what we're getting.

If Koivunen is a top six winger and Brunicke is a top 4 D sure the trade looks great. What if anything makes us think that is happening?

It only takes one of those things happening for it to be a good trade.

As for the chances....your guess is as good as mine.

Gurgs being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian? Why I'd never think that would happen!
I'm trying to take every post and assume they were made in good faith. Ain't always easy

I'm not stoked with the return for Jake but when it's widely known a guy isn't negotiating and is intent on testing the market you're just kinda f***ed. The reason Rantanen went for a much better return is because A. he's a much better player than Jake and B. he's been in negotiations the whole time, so wherever he goes is gonna feel like they might be able to work something out.

As I understand it, Dubas and Jake's camp met during the summer and there were some negotiations, the two sides weren't close, and Jake/his camp got all flustered and decided that's that, he's going to FA. I don't blame him, he wasn't ever gonna get a colossal deal here and this team's toast. And yeah, I wish Dubas would've gotten more by trading him that summer when it was clear the two sides weren't gonna bridge the chasm, but it is what it is. /shrug

Honestly couldn't give a shit less about Jake or the trade anymore. I barely care about the EK deal and losing the 1st that could've been Dickinson, Buium, or Eiserman, on top of now having to retain and find a taker for EK since that experiment failed is much, much worse situation than the Jake deal imo.

@Randy Butternubs you watch Wilkes regularly, right?
Of Avery Hayes' 25 games, how many of them has he been in the top-six for, roughly?
Also how many did he get PP1 for?
I dont watch them unless I make the trip to Wilkes, but when I saw them in November he was on L3. Saturday he started on L2 with McG and Pono, but the team had a bad start and the coach did something crazy...he put all 4 lines in a blender. Hayes finished the night with Poulin and Koppa. Sunday he was back on L2, and hes been on PP2 all 3 games I attended.

If he gets stronger on the puck, I feel like best case is a lite beer version of TK/OG-Rust. Depending on his development and how the other lottery tickets turn out, I could see him getting a look at in the Pens bottom 6 next year.

It so difficult to watch this team with any sort of excitement or hope. I really hope Sullivan is fired in the off season. I don't care about the remaining games this year, just get it over with and obtain a great draft position.

I have zero confidence on our prospects with this coaching staff, they seem to be progressing very well in WBS, maybe just turf the whole coaching staff at the NHL level and bring up MacDonald and crew next year.

I don't know, 10 years of this Boston asshole is 5 years too many.

I've been through a lot of bad years following this team, started in 84.... But I've never seen them so listless and boring and just, hopeless. If they lost in other down eras, at least it was shootouts or somewhat physical. This team is making Minnesota bland look f***ing psychedelic.

There's two options left for this team. Either they trade everything not nailed down by the time next October rolls around (EK, Rust, Rakell, Bunting) and get ready to tank, or they do the wrong thing, which is anything but that first option. /shrug

Fully expect the worst though!

I don’t really think we’re any closer to competing with Guentzel. Last couple years showed that. Rakell has filled the role of Jake goal wise this season and we still suck. It’s on the coach that he couldn’t get the most of out Rakell, Rust, Jake all at the same time in the same top 6.

So prob better to cash in and get the best offer than go 9m by 8 yrs with an NMC. Use the unspent cap on more picks/prospects.

I do think they gotta be careful about what’s on the current roster if they fully strip it down.

After watching some of the rebuilds around the league.. there’s a lot where it’s harder to develop prospects because their team is so bad. I may rather keep a guy or two than have an extra late 1st with how rarely those picks seem to pan out.

Eh, between the cap space freed up and how long it's gonna take to be relevant again, I don't think it matters tbh.

Even if they luck into like, Hagens, McKenna, and Dupont, you're looking at probably 5 or 6 years still until they're all ready to take steps toward the playoffs and making a run. You've got time to find your veteran top 9 fillers and all that.

Can we at least agree that we simply cannot know what the Guentzel return is going to ultimately be, let alone the next series of moves (hopefully), until we get a brand new coaching staff?

Because this situation is so damn dire, we might wake up one morning and see that Mike Sullivan has been fired...only to be replaced by his effing clone who stands next to him looking all dapper.

How does one go about getting the attention of the owners? How many who sit on that board know what the National Hockey League is, let alone understand the sport? When they watch the game, is it on NESN? The team colors are the same, do they actually think the Penguins are the Bruins?

I honestly cannot see any hope at all at the moment. Kyle Dubas, the Canadian with ties to the OHL, was our only hope out of this hell-hole. But he seems more minion than messiah. He is a peon.

Kyle, step aside, hire someone else to GM this team. I have seen enough.

I think you have to change the coaching staff and see if that fixes anything first. Is it Dubas’s fault for bringing in Granlund? Or is it sullivan for having a bubble hockey system? Or is it both?

This ownership group and GM respect Sullivan way too much (see also: revere) to fire him in season. If it happens, it'll be a tearful parting of ways after the season's over. "Just felt it was time to go in another direction. We wish Mike the best, we know how great of a coach he is and he'll be right back to doing this in no time." etc etc

As it should be at this point. Imagine if they fire him now and they get a new coach who turns things around just enough to have them miss the playoffs by a few points. Nightmare scenario

Yes I’m aware my tune has changed on what not firing Sullivan signals
