I’d rather take the 14m Marner will be seeking and use it to bring in both Bennett & Marchand +

Geekie Lindholm Pastrnak
Marchand Bennett Poitras
Minten Zacha ( ? )

Trade Mittlestadt for cap space to fill in 3rd line RW

Marner = regular season star, playoff dud.
Don't think Marchand comes back, unless it is real cheap, age and injuries have caught up to him, time to move on.

And I assume 7 years term, so now my question is, 14 mil ballpark for Marner 16 mil for Boeser and Ehlers, and I am not sure any of them is the answer.

Maybe not but if you can get Marner(which admittedly probably isn't likely) but if you could and get lucky in the draft this year, that's a huge boost to the top 6. If Geekie and Lindholm can continue to produce with Pastrnak could really change things quick.

Agree on Poitras rising, that would be terrific for us, and some summer bulk could help that happen. Don’t agree with Geekie move though…what if you go:

Geekie - Lindholm - Pasta
Zacha - Poitras - Marner/UFA
Mittelstadt - Minten - Roslovic/Lysell

I like Poitras, I just can’t shake the feeling that he’s just never going to reach 2C level.

There’s nothing wrong with being an NHL 3C, it would just be really nice to have a young cost controlled guy at 2C for the next few years though.

I'd rather they seek out help via the trade market. This year's UFA class is a pile of mistakes waiting to happen. Very 2016-ish.
Yeah but who's left on the roster that you'd feel comfortable trading to upgrade this roster? We kinda emptied the cupboard at the deadline. Lohrei? Poitras maybe? No idea what they'd bring back in return.

....although we DO have a first round pick. This board would melt down in epic proportions if that was traded.

I think the biggest problem with many FA’s is that fans (of all teams) tend to think they are going to be the best version of that player for their entire time with a team.

When they typically end up being what they were with their previous team and have up and down stretches and years.

Building a team is a lot of luck, hoping and guessing, IMO.

With the cap the way it is, I really think the success of most teams lies in their middle class a lot of the time.

The superstars often cancel each other out, especially as the playoffs wear on, but if one team’s middle six and second and third pair of D outplay the other teams version, they typically win.

I don’t know what that means for the Bruins in regard to Boeser, Ehlers, etc., But I do see the value in them coming here and legitimizing the 2nd line.

I really don't know. I do know this year's UFA class stinks. Maybe they do nothing. They won't trade that 1st rounder now.

Problem is they have plenty of cap already invested in the middle class. Add up Zacha, both Lindholms, Zadorov, Mittelstadt. Almost 30 million right there. Committed for multiple years.

I said this last summer as well, they need to focus on adding to the upper portion of the line-up, not the middle. Let the younger guys (Minten, Lysell, Poitras, Lohrei) become the rest of the middle.

All that to say I'd be shocked if Sweeney doesn't chase Sam Bennett given he picked him for his 4 Nations team.

Personally I want nothing to do with Boeser or Ehlers. Just not guys I'm hitching my wagon to. Overrated both of them. Elias Lindholm-ish and I didn't want him last off-season either.

Certainly not going to suggest that you’re wrong about any of what you posted.

I just look at this team and see the real need for at least one guy from the outside who can score 28-30 and make it so the second line is legit.

If they are lucky enough to draft a kid who can contribute in the 15-25-40 range, playing somewhat sheltered minutes, re-sign Geekie and hope that the E. Lindholm we’ve seen for the last month shows up in September, they are a legit playoff team with this as the top 6:

Pasta, Lindholm, Geekie, Zacha, Middlestadt, Boeser or Ehlers

Then:
Khustandinov, Draftee, Minten, Kastelic, Koepke, etc. in the bottom six.

Not a cup winner, but if the defense even plays to their average and Swayman does what he’s capable of, we’re watching real hockey next April, IMO.

I don't expect anyone they draft to step in next year. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those draft years where none of the draftees are playing in the NHL next year, including Schaefer.

Rather than lines, I see the forward group more like ranking 1-12.

1) Pasta

2) ?????

3) Geekie

4) Elias

5) Zacha

6) Mittlestadt

7) Lysell

8) Minten

9) Poitras

10) Khusnutdinov

11) Kastelic

12) Lauko

Like last summer, they need that #2 guy to slot behind Pasta in the forward pecking order. Other than Marner, I don't see that guy in free agency. I don't think they'll give Marner what he's gonna command if he goes to market.

Mittelstadt contract really bites. There will always be a market for a middle 6 center, but he’d probably need retention right now to be moved. That’s a heck of a lot of money roadblocking a quality 2nd pair RHD this summer or additional forward help beyond whatever Sweeneys big fish ends up being. Luckily he lacks protections and if we can get him hot or at least lukewarm next fall, he becomes more tradeable.

Ranking my offseason wishes goes like this:

1.) UFAs - Marner and only Marner
2.)RFAs - Cuylle, Knies, Rossi seem like the most realistic due to cap stuff. We aint getting mctavish since ANA has way more FA money available
3.) Trades and other than getting a couple picks to eat Kreider, I don't have any leads there.

I recall a rumor that there would be a substantial resignation from the Bruins front office this week.

Have I missed the event? Did anything happen?
