I know I mention this guy a lot, but would you do something around Brad Marchand and Dawson Mercer?
Yes. I absolutely would.

Meanwhile it's 10 eastern. Where is Donny?

If he is hanging out with you and Dan chewing gummies, blasting Columbian Marching Powder, and pounding Bailey's and whiskey I am going to be really pissed.

If he's with you, send his ass home pronto. He has work to do.

They need a lot of help and while they have some good pieces they lack top end talent. It would help if they drafted appropriately over the past decade. Not to say they whiffed on everyone, they didn’t, but that’s the difference as you know with Boston and say Tampa. If they spend wisely they should get back in a year or two but they really need to get younger and more skilled.
The Lightning haven’t drafted for shit since they got Cirelli in the third in 2015. Colton in the third and Perbix in the 6th are good. But go look at their last decade of draft picks including a lot of first rounders.

"Marchand wants 4 years, trade him and bring him back next year"

Will he come back without a 4 year contract? I honestly couldn't care less. Thanks for everything but this is a business and a 4 year deal is bad business.
It is bad business, but we are fresh off long term deals for Zadorov and Lindholm. Marchy would have a case.

Donny 2 good deals so far

If kushnutov can wipe the joking attitude out of his body and grow up a bit he has all the skill and the tools. I’d put him in Providence for a year.

He seems a bit lazy after watching his Wild video always complaining about his training being so hard. He needs to man up and grow up.

We might have a steal of a pick here but he needs guidance. He’s still an immature kid but big heart.

12m / 4yrs may be worth it as speaking about Brad M

I'd rather save the 5 million and take a run at a bigger fish or give it to someone that can give you that production for 5-6 years instead of maybe 1.

Pastrnak is the guy you have to support and there will be better options than an aging Marchand. This team as constructed underperforming or not isn't a cup contender next season.

Define bigger fish. Production wise, Marchand ranks 7th in points this season among UFA's. We don't have a great prospect pool so its not likely we go out and trade for a bigger fisher either.

Any four year contract for Brad is a mistake

Who says this team isn't a contender next year? This team wildly under performed this year and is still within range of a wild card spot. Are we saying that $5 million is high priced with what the cap looks like for next year? Even if you sign Marchand at $5 million you have $20 million in cap space this off-season to spend on talent
20 million goes fast when you don’t have any other top 9 wingers signed after Pasta and Marchand and Coyle. Or any 4th liners in that cap besides Kastelic. Lohrei needs a contract too.

2025 cap space is 24.1mil

Conservatively :
Marchand- 5
Geekie- 5
Ehlers/Boeser - 9.5/8.5
Lohrei- 3.25

That’s 22.5/21.5 before you get to your 4th line, and still need another top9 winger. So if you’re contending, and you only added one good winger from this years team, you’re simply not good enough to make a run.

I trade Coyle and go top heavy. Let Marchand go if he can’t come down in price to go even heavier up top. If you do those two moves and move Carlo, you can maybe get Chychrun/Gavrikov/ Pionk. I bring in Duchene for 5.5 as a “like“ replacement who is younger and more productive than 63 and 13, but doesn’t need a 3/4 year contract. Those moves make you more of a scoring threat, younger, and stock the cupboard.

Seems kinda quiet on Bruins rumors as though it may just be small fish. I’ve seen a few vague reports that a Marchy deal is likely but I’ve actually been leaning that is slightly more likely he doesn’t get dealt. Carlo, Coyle, Geekie and others I have heard nothing except NYR has interest in Zacha. No hint at the return even. What are you all hearing. Are you still expecting big things today. Love the first two returns but I’m skeptical.

If you keep everyone else? sure. You're going to move guys out though. Between Carlo, Coyle & Peeke alone there is $12.1 million in cap space.

I'm getting worried Carlo and Coyle might not get traded. Please God move on from those two.

You don't need to move them at the TDL. If the right deal comes along, great. If not you wait till the off-season when more teams have the flexibility to add them.

I would like to move Coyle for sure.

Carlo is still a core piece here signed for 2 years at below market. I am ok with tradng him, but I need a HAUL to consider that. Personally, I need more than the rumored Marchand type deals to consider moving a player of Carlo's level

*But that’s isn’t what you proposed and said they could contend with your scenario despite the issues staffing the roster that it creates. You can’t assume we will move those three, but it is what I suggested.
