He accepted the contract so that isn't the teams problem. 4x5M would be a ridiculous contract to hand him, 2 years max and year to year after that. I'm still in the trade him camp.
Yep, I’m with you. 2x$5M i wouldn’t mind. Otherwise I think you have to move him.

Him walking would be catastrophic.

I’ve got a coffee/baileys going right now. We’re back!
just wrote (and passed) a technical certification - my wife is concerned about the absolute billow of smoke that just escaped my garage workshop, with me emerging from it wearing my Garnet Hathaway limited edition Bruins jersey and a catatonic look in my eyes

it's deadline day, let's go!

There goes my hero

OK but he’s been under paid for a long time,do you think he would do the 4 years for 5 mil per?
I am not giving him 4 years at 37, and certainly not for 5 mil, move on Brad. Underpaid, he signed that contract, that is on him and his agent. With that logic, you can have a reversed situation, where Swayman and Elias will play for league minimum, because they have been overpaid.

With Coyle being the 2nd best 3rd line center available (behind Laughton) and the return for Nelson (same age as Coyle) - I think they could open up that 2nd line RW spot and get a 1st OR a solid prospect with some retention on the salary.

If the Leafs miss out on Laughton, could Coyle be a good 3rd line option?

It is but a lot of teams would give him 7 mil x 2 as a UFA

If he wants to come back to Boston and they're offering similar deals as everyone else he'd come back. If teams are stepping up offering 4 year $20 million dollar deals they can have him.

Love the guy but this team isn't in a position to be bending over backwards for a 37 year old.

He can get good money for 2 years and he knows it. 5 mil per on a 2 year deal is insulting. I don’t care how old he is he can still play at a high level

If I’m Rantanen, I’m not signing sh*t. Take it to the summer, see who really wants to give you a bag, and how big that bag can be. You’re still in the playoffs currently, and there’s no reason to settle.

Just tear it down. Trade Marchand for hopefully a late 1st and see what kind of capital you can get for the offseason when you hopefully fire Sweeney which isn’t likely but I can hope.
