If he didn’t have his contract sure. But Calgary isn’t going to retain 50% for six more seasons after this one. Even then he’s pricey for that kind of term.

He came out this season saying he would waive his NMC and everyone said, 'no one wants you' or laughed (rightly so) at the idea of him holding value.

He appears to be out to prove he has value as he was playing a completely different game than last year. He was attacking the net, vocal, and has since then put up 6 points in the first three games.

If this is indeed a player they are going to move (if it's either his request or the team also agreeing with his request) the right amount of retention on him could be a great addition.

I don't follow your logic on why Calgary would want to move him, not to mention move him AND retain salary. Especially for the options you listed above. I just don't see it.

They are not competing for years. They can get assets for him and get out from his contract. They remove a player who doesn't want to be there.

I don't think the Bruins would offer Poitras and don't see the Flames wanting Frederic on an expiring contract. By the way, I like Huberdeau. There is plenty of risk, though.

Depends on how you value Poitras and Frederic, or more importantly, how Calgary does.

Personally, I don't see a lot of value in Frederic (regardless of his expiring contract). He's a solid meat & potatoes bottom 6 guy on a good team who is very easily replaceable. There's nothing special about that player, other than his ability to fill a roster spot and chip in 15-20 goals. Can he play top 6? Maybe. But if he is, your forward group probably isn't very good.

For me right now, Poitras' ceiling is a 2C. He's still gotta show that he's durable enough to play a full season, and lead a line.

Defense is at 29.5 and that's before Lohrei gets a raise. The goalies are at 11.25. over 40 mil for that 100 feet alone. Doesn't seem like a lot to fortify the forward corps in the near or long term future. What type of deal do you guys see Marchand getting?

I'm not worried because there are players on this team the Bruins should consider moving on from if they don't play well this year. A lot will depend on how well Lohrei and Poitras develop.

Marchand probably gets a similar contract cap hit wise with bonuses making up a good portion of it.

I’d look at it the other way. D and goaltending are set and baked in. Almost assuredly a $4.5M increase in cap next year. Cap won’t be a major issue but they’re not going out and getting another $8M forward next year anyway.

Okay, full apologies for posting this if someone else already has but I'd love for the Bruins to explore moving assets for a retained Jonathan Huberdeau.

He could play the C position and bump Coyle to the RW.
He as a personal vendetta and is motivated to defeat the Panthers.
He plays a Bruins complete two-way game.
He is playing to prove to the NHL he can return to form outside of Calgary.
He is outscoring every Bruin right now.
He has a NMC that he controls, allowing Boston (his former teams key opponent) to perhaps control the return if Calgary wants to move on from the contract.

I wouldn't rule it out with 50% retention but I'm not sure if we're talking about the same Jonathan Huberdeau here. He doesn't play center and is primarily a LW. I don't think he's known for his two-way game either. He has never played any PK in Calgary and plays kind of soft around the perimeter.

If anyone in Calgary, I take a look at Blake Coleman. He actually plays RW, good speed, gritty game, knows what it takes to win.

4.9 @ 2.5 is really good value. I'm not sure he's a 30 goal scorer but he does a lot of damage even strength. He is elite PK'er and can play some net front on the PP as well.

Marchand-Coyle-Coleman would make an incredible shutdown line

Maybe I'm still annoyed that Freddy never made it as a C, and I'd love his size down the middle. Just seems like a weird line.

Bs ownership has found the perfect partner in Fanatics.....think about the maximum you can charge and then add a 20-25% premium
