Tyler Johnson will be going into his 13th NHL season. He’s scored 42 PP goals in his career. He averages less than four per season. Part of this season is gone. So I guess we could hope for him to score three. Would that move the needle?
I’d rather try one of our own young guys.

Which one of the young guys? Merkulov looks less engaged than Alex Semin playing the 74 Flyers, Lysell isn't producing. Want to give Kuntar a shot? He will bring some energy at least.

Brown and Lettieri are leading Providence in goals, not exactly youngsters. At minimum Johnson is at least an NHL player, not an offensive threat but he can compete at an NHL level, don't know if Providence has any forwards like that.

I'd give a shot to letteri hes got some spark to his game.

He had 8 last year in 67 games - only Pastrnak had more for the bruins.

I don’t even care who they give a shot to. I just don’t want it to be a washed up player that every team in the league passed on. Why not try anyone from Providence? We don’t know what we might have. With Tyler Johnson we know what we have and the answer is not much.

We don't even have Tyler Johnson

What would Vatrano at 50% cost?

I'm guessing he's worth a second at the deadline? We'd need to include Geekie so the salaries wash ($2m out / $1.8 in), but he's got size, tenacity, speed and can finish. Off to a slow start this year but had 37 goals last year, and can play either wing.

Tyler is Johnson is hardly "washed up."

Yes he is 5'8". Yes he is 34.

Even so, Johnson has a ton of invaluable playoff experience, helping Tampa Bay win two Stanley Cups.

Tyler Johnson scored 17 goals last season on a dreadful Chicago Blackhawks team.

He is versatile. Like Denton Heinen, but, in my view better.

He can play either way or center. He still has wheels. He has hockey sense.

I am all for playing Lysell and Merkulov, or others from providence. When they prove to me and everyone else that they can be effective at the NHL level.

TBD, to say the least, I'm back front.

I'm willing to bet they do not have a forward in Providence that could equal Johnsons production. This is not praising Johnson it's condemning the lack of NHL talent at forward in Providence, there is not a top 9 prospect go be seen.

I’m very willing to condemn the lack of prospects, but I’d still try any of them before Johnson. I think he’s around 5’3. Then again, Monty wants everyone to play that size anyways.

Johnson is the safe move, simple, cheap, one-year contract that doesn't cost assets.
Sign him and see if he can bring stability to rw on the 2nd line.
Not expecting anything flashy but a veteran presence.
In a perfect world he allows others to slot in the lineup a line lower.
Worse he becomes a veteran on the 3rd line.
Absolute worse the 13th forward.
Total failure, he is waived.
Buys more time for the kids to find their game.
It's not like the kids are lighting the world on fire right now anyway.
If the one of the kids earns a spot they will get a spot.
It's the safe move.

Brazeau-Zacha-Pasta
March-Lindholm-Poitras
Frederic-Coyle-Geekie/Johnson
Now that we have decided that Zacha is our first line center, that 8 mil for the second line center looks even more ridiculous, what you are saying without saying it so I will say it for you, they should have kept Zacha in the middle and go out and get a goal scoring winger, not trying to put words in your mouth.
