Before the season started, everyone assumed

Zacha/Lindholm/Pasta
Marchand/Coyle/(Brazeau/Lysell/Johnson)
Frederic Poitras Geekie

with the team playing the right way again, would it be crazy to try again whenever you are ready to call back Poitras? Or do we think that first line just won’t ever work and it’s not worth checking out again? What if you swapped the LWs around?

Just put 51 with 11 and 13 move 47 down to the fourth line get rid of 26

it's pretty weird, that's for sure. and with kastelic finding a home at 3RW, they probably need help on the 4th line too.

one thing that has been curious - this team still leads the NHL in PP opportunities. for a team that we probably consider very
low on the skill quotient (especially compared to the rest of the league), any idea why that's happening? kind of a strange
combination.
The PP sucks because they hesitate too much. They telegraph everything they do. They are one step behind pushing the play. They don’t deceive the defense. Need more one timers from a good angle. Slap shots from the point.

As I was watching McAvoy send another puck into Pasta's skates the other day, it made me long for the perfect touch that Krejci had.

Pasta's second and fourth best PPG totals came with McAvoy on the PP. But since 1/19/24, Pasta only has 5 PPGs. Only 5! Right there with Tyler Johnson and whomever Pavel Dorofeyev is. That's the same as Brazeau since then. And Brazeau wasn't even on an NHL contract on 1/19/24!

It's not just a McAvoy problem. It is a "teams discovered without Bergeron there isn't another threat" problem. McAvoy hasn't been a solution to that problem, but neither has anyone else. It's just way too easy for teams to shade towards the passing lanes to Pasta without being burnt.

Well putting out the same unit game after game, in my opinion is irresponsible. I suggest E. Lindhom, McAvoy, Marchand, should be considered removed from the PP, start with one , maybe two, at a time and do not be afraid to do all three. PP SUCKED LAST YEAR AND SUCKS EVEN MORE THIS YEAR. Come on Sacco, make some decisions, unpopular as they may be.

Not sure who the next best shooter is after Pasta…Marchand maybe?

Considering they have the worst PP in the league, maybe try Pasta as the bumper and use someone else in his spot.

I understand that the bumper might not get many chances to shoot…but as the PP develops, maybe having Pasta in front of the net after someone else shoots to be there for rebounds or to receive passes in front of of the net might be worth a try?

Well that’s Larkin to Dallas then.

Marchand has the best wrist shot on the team after Pasta. Maybe even before Pasta, or at least in his prime it was. After that I’d say . . . nobody. Well Coyle can shoot as can Geekie, but they’re just middle of the road NHL shots. There are literally two players on the team with high-end NHL shots. Been the case for years. No one can score off of their shot, which is why they can’t score off of the rush, and why they constantly overpass to try to get the goalie out of position. Because outside of Pasta or Marchand no one can put the puck past the goaltender when he’s in position. Hell, even Pasta can’t this year. Hopefully he heats-up in the new year though, like he usually does, or, even better, out west.

Zacha.

If only
a) he would use it more often

And

b) hit the target.

I was looking at Puckpedia, didn't realize the Bruins were the only Atlantic playoff team to have their first this year. Tampa traded theirs for Jeannot, Toronto for McCabe & Florida for Tkachuk. Thats good to know before the trade deadline.

I'm A-OK trading the first this year for a forward with term but otherwise I'm fine staying away from rentals like Granlund.

I would vote to stop pushing for Poitras, to satisfy everyone desire for a new bright and shinny binkie, the kid did not show enough, to be NHL ready, someday maybe but not now. I suggest to many, stop pushing the for the kid, not ready.
I mean the kid was 2nd on the team last year in 5v5 Corsi and this year he is 2nd (well third if you count McLaughlin but the sample size is low)

So far we've seen Merkulov, Tufte, Max Jones, Viel, Brown, Tyler Johnson (only good on the PP) show us absolutely nothing remotely close to a game as close to Poitras

It's one thing if you don't think he's strong enough (he doesn't put himself in good positions to absorb body contact) but saying he did not show enough to be NHL ready is crazy when Poitras has more points than every single one of those spare forwards I mentioned above combined in almost half as many games played

Poitras should be up in the big club and likely will be soon

yardbarker is not legit.

At all.

Because he is coming off a dominant weekend in Providence, and has really played well down there after a slow start. That said, I have no idea if he will be back soon, but it wouldn't be a surprise
As long as we keep winning more than losing and injuries don't hit I don't think they will disrupt this line up. I think they will prefer to give him max playing time and development down there and also keep seeing who, if anyone he develops chemistry with thinking about next year.

Interesting.

Someone posted last week that we were a "Kreider away from being a Cup contender" and I thought, but what happens when the teams that are already contenders add their own Kreider.

I guess that's less of a threat now. Good find.
