I like this Kreider, Zacha, Braz line idea. Geekie, on the other hand, just plain sucks. I don’t see much physicality and isn’t he like -10? I just don’t care for his game. Too many guys that are just filling a roster spot. He’s no better than MvLaughlin.
Geekie is pretty clearly better than McLaughlin, come on man. I like McLaughlin but he is absolutely a 15-16F on an average NHL Team depth chart.

I’d rather they make a play for Brock Nelson. Same age, plays center, a UFA after this season so no long term commitment. 10G 7A in 27 games this season.

Kreider signed for 3 more years AFTER this season at 6.5m per. Kreider a Bruin to age 38? Pass.

Marchand Lindholm Pastrnak
Zacha Nelson Brazeau
Frederic Coyle Geekie
Actually its to age 36 with Kreider, thru end of RS 2027-28.

I think Nelson will cost a 1st rounder or Lysell.

That is 2 very different prices. I wouldn't want to give up a first for a UFA to be that you don't want to resign. I am willing to give up Lysell in a deal like this, his value is no where close to a first at this point

Is he more of a top 6 center or another "middle six" center?

Ozzie, you and I have been in agreement quite a bit lately, but now we have hit the fork in the road. I know Geekie, has had a rough start to the season, and I would include him in a trade to make this team better, but I just think he is a better player than many around here want to give him credit for. Geekie works hard, has a good shot, only costs 2 million for now. I just think, he is the player that could come back and bite you in the ass. just saying.

If it is only costs you Lysell, I am in, I am a no on the first.

I liked last years Geekie. This years, not so much.

I like the guy from Anaheim

Secondly, Anaheim got Trouba for nothing….why?
I’d like Mctavish from Anaheim.

I don’t know why anyone would want to give up our first plus more assets to invest in this team this year, especially for an aging power forward. This isn’t the year to dump our first for sure.
We are only a Kreider away from being a cup contender. This team is not the dumpster fire it was under Monty.

Well I’d say that’s where the disagreement is lol.

Even if you stipulate that, I’d want to get something better/different/younger than Kreider if we’re trading the first++

I don’t remember any specifics involving a first, but that’s a guy I’d give up a LOT for, first included. He would immediately make us a much superior team, likely the favorite in the conference. He’s clearly available and they should do what it takes (within reason) to get him here.

Just heard Ty Andersen on sports hub and he seems to agree that taking on Kreider at this stage of his career is a bad move. Cites his contract term/ age, and history of power forwards breaking down in their mid 30’s.

Seems like a David Backes situation all over again.

Yep. Four or five years ago, even three it would have been a good move. I don't want to see another situation of giving up futures for an aging high-priced vet.

It’s hard to know what they need.

At the start of the year, everyone (and I mean that literally) was sure we needed a RW to play with Marchand. In my mind, I was picturing a shooter to go with his 63’s passing and 13’s net front presence.

Twenty games in, it looked like we needed a LW to play with Zacha and Pasta. IMO, the best fit there would have been a power forward who played around the net and below the goal line, a Bertuzzi type.

Then last game they put Marchand-Lindholm and Pasta together and they look great. Now it feels like they need a LW to play with Zacha and Brazeau, but this time I’m thinking a play driver who like to carry and make plays.

So in my mind we’ve gone from
RW shooter to LW power forward to LW play driver.

They need a first line quality winger and then you make up the lines from there.
