Not sure about that. Look at the Tkachuk trade. It was:

[snip]

Where it all balances out is with the Avs not including a 1st round pick in the deal.
I get all of that, but I see the discrepancy in that Tkachuk was a sign and trade (locked in for 8 years) and there was no certainty (if I recall) on either Huberdeau or Weegar signing in Calgary.
Tkachuk was a style of player Florida needed/wanted enough to overpay to get and changed their team identity immediately.

I also think the gap between Petey and Mikko is minimal even compared to good Huberdeau and Tkachuk at the time.

We’re getting 2 awesome trade deadline acquisitions in Nuke now and Landy in the playoffs. If only one of Nuke, Landy, Lehky could play center, Avs 2C problems would be solved

Rantanen and Gulayev and a 1st for Petterson. Or Rantanen + Ritchie for EP40. No more than that though and who could top that kind of offer anyway...

There's a very good chance all of this applies the same to a Pete/Rantanen deal.

Pete is an RFA that would presumably be doing a similar sign and trade with the team he's going to. Rantanen is a UFA in 1 year just like Huberdeau was and just like Huberdeau wouldn't have any reason to sign long term with his new team unless they pay him what he wants.

I really don't see how the gap between Pete and Mikko is minimal. So many things are in Pete's favor. 2 years younger, RFA vs UFA, C vs W, two-way game. The premium of getting the guy 2 years younger and the C instead of the W alone is quite significant.

I don’t see many teams offering a caliber close to Rants level either. If EP is moving, I guarantee their owner is going to meddle and demand the best piece back that allows them to compete, rather than best value.

If Rants is open to signing with the Canucks, I think the base is there and it’s be pretty realistic without Byram. CMac isn’t going to overpay even if it’s a move that secures the Avs future. I’d personally drive Byram to the airport with Rants, but I doubt CMac would.

The only way I see Mikko being moved is for cap reasons in the off season. Petterson makes their cap situation worse not better.

The only kind of trade I see that makes sense for Mikko is an off season package deal that includes another veteran, top line capable, winger that makes $6-9M or so, or is an RFA that will sign for that.

Or maybe they can get an even cheaper winger in a package deal with someone like Tuch.

Or perhaps some $7M ish 2C's from Buffalo like Thompson, Cozens, or everyone's favorite soon to be $7M 2C with a career high 59 points (on pace for 62 this year) Mittelstadt.

Mikko might need to agree to an extension for some of these deals though, even though they could move him next deadline too if they need to and recoup a lot of assets.

People really need to stop expecting Landy to join the team for the playoffs. The odds of that are very slim.
Im already set on him never playing again and if he does he wont be effective and will retire. Its easier this way. I hope im wrong but how often do the Avs get lucky with injuries especially an injury to a Swede.

Yeah I mean just because he's skating doesn't mean shit. I really have my doubts that he'll ever play more than a few shifts to give it shot. This surgery he had isn't something you really come back from easily. And even if you do no one should expect any consequential results from the player.

They're not that slim.

His timeline was 12-18 months, and this is a pretty new surgery, so that's likely a conservative timeline.

He started skating in January and 12 months would be in May, so the 2nd or 3rd round are within the estimated timeline.

if Ottawa decides they wanna trade Pinto the Avs should be in on him. Been a fan since the WJC.
I've been of a mind that CMac should have been calling every single day starting the day Pinto was suspended. Wear them down until they say okay. That's what they did to get Lehky.

Pick a player, don't take no...but be willing to pay the "Buy now" price.

We've just gone so long without a satisfactory 2C, and it is absolutely a roadblock to success in the playoffs.

A friend just sent me this:

COLORADO would receive Adam Henrique and Jake Allen

ANAHEIM would receive Calum Ritchie, the 1st round COL pick in 2025, Sean Behrens, and Ryan Johansen

MTL would receive a 3rd round pick in 2026 from Colorado

*ANA would retain 50% of the contracts of Henrique and Allen

- Via NHL Watcher

I think I would stop being a fan if it happened. 🤮

Vancouver added Zadorov and Lindholm, Winnipeg added Monahan.

Last year New York added Horvat, New Jersey added Meier.

All prior to the deadline.

I said contenders, like for the Stanley cup. Why would last year mean anything in terms of this deadline? Lol

This is all fantasy talk and I'm the one who posts Kadri gifs every third day so I get it but I'd say the chances of Rantanen getting traded in season are close to zero. Even in the offseason I'd be shocked if they made a move like that but in the next three weeks? Nah.

Lets just get Mittelstadt and make a run.

Drouin-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Lehkonen-Mittelstadt-Nichushkin
Wood-Colton-LOC
Parise-Cogliano-Kiviranta
Landeskog

That's a forward group you can win it all with. Drouin sticks out, even with his success this season, but you have options if he sucks.

Use Byram in the Mittelstadt trade and then trade the 1st for a defenseman.

Don't ask me about the goaltending.

Hello avs boardz

Been seeing a lot of rantanen for Petey proposals.

Rantanen + Byram is intriguing largely because we get Byram included in the package as well.

Rantanen and the contract he wants is a bit scary though. I’m more than fine re signing Pettersson to $12M as he’s a top 6 C and if he’s willing to re sign then this whole trade idea is moot, full stop. Rantanen on the other hand i’m not sure. Avs fans correct me if I’m wrong but he’s not an all situations guy? And many of his points come from Mackinnon as well? Though could be a case where both benefit each other.

I’d probably want Rantanen, Byram, and Ritchie back in an ideal trade so we at least get a promising center prospect back in return. Although I’m not sure if he’s untouchable or if that would be too much on your guys part.

Regardless, I really don’t think we end up winning a trade that involves Pettersson, but this is likely the type of deal that would happen.

Neither Mikko or Mack are a product of the other. We've seen enough of them both in and out of the lineup to know that for a fact.

He actually gets better without Mack around, and is capable of carrying a team during these times.

They're a little like Malkin and Crosby that way.
