Just an absolute master class in team building by Cmac. Trade for likely the worst starter in the league and put him in front of one of the worst bottom 9 forward corps in the league.
Incorrect. Georgiev wasn't a starter.

Our pro-scouts/management decided he would become one for cheap because we never invest in goalies nor draft them high.

Avs should trade Georgiev and bring in a higher paid goalie. Our defense can't hide the problems of these budget goalies anymore.

Saros @ 3M (40% retained) and Nashville 2024 2nd for
Byram, Georgiev and Avs 2024 1st

Extend Saros 8 yrs x 7,75M

There you go, top 5 goalie extended through his prime.

Edit. Forgot the retention on Saros.

Same shit as usual. The top line and defense are more than good enough. However, the offensive depth sucks ass. Now also the goaltending is horrendous.

The depth issue is because of two things: the absolute disaster ryjo has been and nuke not fixing his shit during the summer like he should have.

A semi competent 2c and nuke back and it moves everyone into the role they should be for the most part. Are they a super deep team with those two things? Nope, but they are miles better.

The most concerning thing to me is goaltending. Fix the 2c, fire Ryjo into the sun and get a goalie with nuke returning and they are a pretty good team.

They HAVE to entertain moving him next summer, especially if Landy comes back.
Should've done it last summer if they could have gotten a good 2C in return.

At this point, I don't give a damn how many extra points he gets 6-2 games. We need someone who can drive a second line when we are fighting in 0-1, 1-2 type game situations. Yes, he is a point machine but he does not forecheck, he does not backcheck, he rarely wins board battles, he sucks on faceoffs, and he skates like he would rather be anywhere else in the world than on NHL ice. Basically, if he's not one-timing a cross ice pass from the right circle, he's useless.

GM’sand coaches would love to have what we have right now. And would be aggressive. Not the Avs. They have to think about the future draft busts we’d draft
Yep. There are many GM´s who would go balls deep to cash in on the cup window. These jokers on the other hand sit on their hands and happily waste entire contending seasons. Unacceptable.

They're kind of forced to build their teams with goaltending in the $3.5-4.5M price range though.

They have a high priced core at both forward and defense, so either they lose Landy AND Mikko, or they lose Landy and Val, or something like that which will hurt them.

Even with cheap goaltending, they're probably gonna have to lose a defenseman this summer, and then maybe another the next summer.

This strategy paid off with Kuemper and almost with Grubauer. I'd be curious to see how they'd play in front of this mistake prone team this year. Perhaps better, but Kuemper at least, I'm not sure it'd be that much better if at all.

I think the stinkers are really getting to the minds of our guys right now. With a more solid performance, I think the top guys could be winning us these close games we're loosing right now. Makes building depth at the TDL harder, but might be what this team needs.
