That's not the point at all.

The point is we don't have Landy in the lineup right now but we spend his money elsewhere.

If Landy isn't on LTIR this year CMac still gets a 2C last summer. We probably still have Ryjo but no Colton, no Wood and no someone else who makes more than 3M (pick one).
You can't magically find a Landy even if you have 7M$ in cap space, UFA is not a bottomless reservoir of amazing talents to pick from. Landy is our captain and an amazing player, he's a huge loss beyond his cap number.

Definitely.

I guess the question is what version of Landeskog will we be getting back?

Landy on his merits as a player alone is worth the cap hit. With these listless leaderless :eek::eek::eek::eek: he's worth $10+ million.

You're going to find out you don't amount to jack squat. You're going to end up eating government cheese and living in a van down by the river!

This dude was my high school guidance counselor. He told my scores were anti-heroic.

If we gave up Ritchie + 1st for Pinto and he immediately signs something like Colton did, would that be fine even though it pretty much walks him to Ufa?

Our cap situation is f***ed with the eventual Landy comeback and desperately need cheap contributors. Ritchie is by far the best bet to make something happen during his ELC.

This is basically why I've lowered expectations on this deadline. I think Frost and Walker wouldn't be too high and Frost's 2.1m wouldn't cause too many cap issues.

Frost+some other 3RD with PK abilities would be nice

I still really like these two moves:

1st + RyJo for Dowd(@50%)
Byram for York + Frost

It's a solid depth move for this year, dumps RyJo, and gives us good players for reasonable cap hits next year as well. All 3 guys would be signed for next season:

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Frost - Lehky
Wood - Colton - LOC
???? - Dowd - Kovalenko

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
York - ????

George

That roster for next year would be at $81.5M. Which means you'd have $6M left for 4th line winger, a #5/6 RD, a backup goalie, and then a 13th forward and 7th Dman

You could actually build out the depth with players not just on league minimum contracts. Could grab a decent bottom pairing RD for ~$1.5M, a decent Backup goalie for $1.5M, and then still have $3M enough for 3 $1M players.

I get that Frost maybe isn't the perfect 2C, but he has produced to a near 50 point pace last year on a fairly poor offensive Flyers team and again this year is on a 45-50 point pace. I think if you put him with a couple solid wingers here he could be a 50-60 guy.

And at $2.1M it's the kind of target we need to make. We can't really afford much higher quite frankly.
