Alright boys, time to get to work. Let's stop wasting time on hypothetical trade proposals. I want everyone to come up with 3 potential title names for CMac in Columbus
1. CMac - GM & President of "wait, does this mean that I have to trade for all former Avs now?"
2. CMac - GM & President of "I'm gonna trade for Matthew Tkachuk so we can be CMac & Cheese"
3. CMac - GM & President of "I always hated the Colorado River...there, I said it"

The sentiment towards the avalanche is very negative among the casual hockey fans. I have friends that say the Avs are a one line team, and their goaltending sucks. They’re not wrong right now.

Well, you tell your friends to f*** off. We have 2 lines. Sure, the second one is a 3rd line, but it's still a line dammit!

We play like the Oilers from 2-3 years ago.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I'd tell CBJ to **** off if they come asking for CMac. Avs don't win the cup without him.

Yup. Basically need the stars to carry and pray that the goalie doesn’t lose you the game.

I do think there’s potential for more tho. The 3rd line would be great if we actually had a 2nd line. Defense is on another level in that comparison but you haven’t seen it consistently this year.

Don’t have a lot of faith after last year but it’s crazy what a 2nd line could do for this team. No 2nd line + no Nuke is ugly.

No doubt. We're in agreement there.
All kidding aside, I don't think the Avs will though. (I'm including Sakic with C-Mac in the management group)

Imagine bringing Parise on board only to leave the lineup exactly as it is?? Oof, I would feel really bad for him if they did that. I think it's time to be bold and make the right moves, like they did in 2022.

Lol no. I'd gladly drive him to airport tomorrow. Dude is f***ing terrible. If he took over CLB tomorrow they wouldn't be competitive for quite some time. He's lucky that 29 and 8 exist. If not for them we'd be bottom of the league.

It would be, but it would be playing chess not checkers
If I was the owner, the only thing different I would be doing now is canning JD before making a decision on the GM.

Personally, I think CBJ needs a complete fresh start. I want to stress this is not a dis in any way at any player on the CBJ roster, but if I was the owner, I'd tell the new GM to rebuild a new culture and that means outside of Adam Fantilli you sell every piece that is not nailed down. Those pieces that are nailed down will probably waive their nails after that and you can sell them too. I just don't see how you completely rebuild the culture by allowing long tenured or high-priced players from the previous regime to stay, no matter how good they are as players or people... they were part of what was not working and if I was truly committed to rebuild, I would not be handcuffing my new GM responsible for it by insisting she keep anyone.

Yes, I used she. I think the Jackets would do well to cast an extremely wide net and be open to the possibility that their GM could be breaking a glass ceiling. I would be looking to interview Émilie Castonguay, if the Canucks would allow it.

The guy Columbus really needs to hire is Darche... I have a feeling it will be Mark Hunter.
I'd forgotten about Mark. I thought he and Dale had just settled in and become content with the Knights. Are they both still looking towards the NHL or just Mark at this point?

It’s his fault that Landeskog and Nichushkin are out and Lehkonen missed half the year?

And this is different from every team in the league how?

I was perusing some info from last year's trade deadline and came across a couple of interesting transactions :

Minnesota retained 25% of Orlov's salary ($1.275M) for a 5th round pick
Minnesota retained 25% of ROR's salary ($1.875M) for a 4th round pick

I know the situation is different with Ryjo since he's got another year left but I get the feeling no matter who ends up with him at the end of the season is likely going to buy him out.

Maybe... if we trade him and get enough teams involved, we can get him down to less than league minimum and all it will cost is FOUR 4th round picks !!!!

I'm kinda surprised you find that bizarre. Especially in light of the death of his teammate and closest friend that literally happened right in front of him and is closely tied with the organization, and has obviously taken a huge toll on him both on and off the ice. That guy needs a fresh start in the worst possible way.

As for how they handled the "Tarasov is our future" thing, yes, that was pure, gross incompetence on Vincent's part there, and IMO looking back, it appeared to have caught Jarmo unawares.

IMO it's Jett Greaves who's the true goalie of the future. No idea about Nolan Lalonde who's in Junior and signed to an ELC.
Maybe I should've been more clear - I don't find it bizarre that Elvis wants out, simply what Columbus has been doing considering he wants out and isn't in their long-term plans.

They also have Ivanov who looks promising albeit undersized - won the starter role and has a ~.930 SV% at the age of 19 in the KHL.

You might be reading this slightly off. Minny retained 25% of the cap hit for Orlov and ROR and 25% of the remaining salary to be paid (the real dollars of it). This excludes bonuses and any previously paid amounts. Orlov's salary for the whole season last year was 1.3m. ROR's was 1m. For ease of math just assume at that point they had been paid 75% of the season leaving 25% (they were probably 25% for Orlov and 27% for ROR). That leaves ~325k for Orlov and ~250k for ROR... of which Minny paid out in real cash 81.25k for Orlov and 62.5k for ROR.

RyJo as of today has about 5.5m left in salary to be paid out as he has no signing bonuses. At best... 1.5m left for this year than 2.67m as a buyout over two seasons for a total of 4.17m. We are in completely different realms.

This whole last bit of the season, high signing bonus guys is why it pretty cheap to get retention at the deadline. Guys like Savard who had only salary cost a bit more get elevated to the 3rd or even 2nd round.
