Colton -> L'Heureux
Drury -> Svechkov

Downgrading in these positions but minimizing the cap hits. 5-6M more to spend on LD. Maybe Joe will also trade for a league minimum Nuke replacement.

Short term they're a downgrade and I'm sure Sakic will add to the forward group closer to the deadline. But long term they could end up being better options for the bottom 6. Saw some chatter that L'Heureux could end up being a solid middle 6 guy if he cleans up his game a bit.

If they reach those heights, that's a big if, it'll take 2-3 years. Makar will have 2 cups in Calgary by then.

Where does this deal leave the Avalanche?​

Colorado sits with just under $4M in salary cap space and three defensemen and a depth forward left to sign. That’s not enough cap space to fill the spots they need, so I’d expect another trade on the horizon. Given what I’ve heard, I fully expect it to be a Val Nichushkin deal, a concept you can read more about tomorrow morning when my piece on Nichushkin’s situation drops.

It has to be a forward. I can’t imagine we’re marketing a D when it’s by far our biggest need this offseason.

I didn't say we were marketing the player. Teams can call, Avs can listen for an "overpay." Doesn't mean he's being offered.

We are shopping Nichushkin and Drury.

There’s really no point in speculating who it is.

The Avs aren’t shopping the player and wouldn’t trade him bar a big overpayment from somebody. It’s just that a couple of teams have checked in on the player.

The full focus is on:

• Nichushkin out
• Drury out
• Acquire top 4 LHD / Re-sign Kulak
• Get Makar deal done to announce in early July
