Boston Bruins 2026 Offseason Roster & Salary Cap VII

The only point in keeping David Pastrnak at this point is because he's entertaining in and of himself, and seems like a genuinely good human being.

And this may be me projecting, because for all I know he's happier than a pig in shit, but I really think we're gonna waste his career at this point.
Pastrnak essentially singlehandedly carries the team and brings the fans. Cannot imagine this team without him, they would score .5 goals per month.

I got more if anyone wants one.

Why is that, I have a different opinion than you of this player? I like my players to give a shit.

Use your words more carefully Spanky
No because you're sitting behind a screen calling a guy a wimp who could beat all of our asses - I'll never fault anyone for having a differing opinion

That comment wasn’t intended for you.

As far as the 1OA, it’s possible both teams say no. The Leafs have a kid on ELC for 3 years who can potentially be an explosive scorer. And taking into account the unease with Matthews, it’s in their best interest to keep McKenna so as they can build around him going forward if the bottom falls out with Matthews/ Nylander.

From the Bruins standpoint McKenna in/ Pastrnak out means rebuild. Now you’re shopping McAvoy & Swayman. A total shift in strategy. You have maybe 4-5 productive (90-100 points) with Pastrnak. IMO I’m not yet convinced McKenna is elite. I’d rather take a chance with a kid who’s played a year or two in the league and another top 10 draft pick.

Long winded way of saying if I’m Boston GM I keep Pastrnak.

No worries, didn't think anyone meant me. Was more just so people jumping into the middle of the thread knew what was up.

If Zacha isn’t extended by August, you have to trade him.
Seems like the best of bad options is to play Zacha at center with Pasta and Geekie if you can’t find a real center. Elias and Mittlestadt aren’t good enough and he would stubbornly shoehorn them at his own peril.

Yes, we’ve found out Zacha isn’t a center multiple years…it’s the definition of insanity…but it’s the best option imo if DS can’t do his job.

The way I look at it is that the Elias move is multiple poison pills, one just having him be ineffective/an anchor, and the other having to invest in terms of cap and player cost to bring in someone who will perform in the universe of what he was brought in to do. With Elias we keep paying and paying. Who is going to have to be traded to clean up his mess? Think of the horrendous crime if it costs Mitten or something. Barf.

He’s the gift that keeps on giving. What a cautionary tale.

Zacha was their best center last year, he definitely isnt a 1C but he 100% is a top 6 NHL center.

Can you imagine how bad/obvious it must be for a GM to step up to a podium and say that about a player?! He just said he’s some degree of toast. Ouch. Damn. Carve that in stone now. Wonderful.

Why do you think Zacha isn't a center?

Every time I watch him speak, I feel ashamed that I've defended him because he comes across as such an ass.

But, I have to stay logical in consistent and to my dying breath, I'll put the 13, 19 and 23 losses on the players and coaches and will give him credit for putting together championship caliber teams.

Not going to quibble about every single move/lack of move, trade, signing or hiring and I'm certainly not going to be upset if/when he's fired, but it sucks for me (because I wasn't a fan of him as a player and am not a fan of him as a person) that I have to give him the credit that I feel I should.

Did some reporter actually pose a question to Sweeney about Elias Lindholm's No. 1 C upside?
I believe someone asked him about getting a top center this offseason, and he mentioned how those guys aren't always available, everyone's top 32 list is different, and how rare it is those players are available. He mentioned on the offchance they are, he referenced Vegas being ready to jump in and trade for Eichel, and how they have been approaching center by committee.

I believe he then listed off players like Zacha, who he said he wants to extend, Kastelic, Minten, Hagens who they want to see at center, and mentioned Letourneau. There may be a name or two I missed (I believe Poitras' name popped up a few times), but he pretty much mentioned everyone except Elias Lindholm which prompted the media asking about him.
