Morgan isn't a good hockey player. He's slow as a turtle, a terrible skater, has very low hockey IQ, and his only real skill is his shot. Defensively, he's a liability, and too often he looks like he doesn't want to put in the work.I'm pretty down on Geekie tbh and I know I'm in the minority in that position. I really was unimpressed with his effort for the entire 2nd half of the season. Also I don't think he plays particularly well with Pasta and looks disinterested at times when he's not next to Pasta. Also gets lost too much on D to play the style Sturm wants to play.
Watching him not hit at all until game 7 against Buffalo honestly pissed me off. He could be good but his overall game too a step back last season imo. I mean the dude was a 3rd liner for long stretches of last season and Sturm went to Minten/Khusnutdinov over him regularly and tbh it seemed like the right decision. He showed up and scored in game 1 vs Buffalo but if you take away that fluke goal in game 2, that's where his points stop. People are so down on Zacha's playoff performance but Geekie was a pop-fly away from going zeros in 6 straight games.
If you're retooling, you sell high on players like him and Zacha. They have good market value, and packaging them could help bring back pieces you actually need, like a true first-line center and a top-four right-shot defenseman.
