Rumor: 2026 Free Agent Frenzy

I can most definitely see Werenski ending up in Carolina.

They'll put Nikishin on the table no doubt. Hell, they might even put Svechnikov after seeing yet another underwhelming playoff run.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s not clear whether he actually wants to go there or if it’s just Carolina being linked as interested, which they usually are whenever big names are available.

Why is Werenski or any other player obligated to help their team out? The team hasn’t exactly done a lot to make his job any easier. I’d get it more if this was a player that played on an incredibly successful team looking for a change of pace, but that’s not this situation
To be fair, they've been trending up year after year recently, and should have been in the playoffs this year if it wasn't from an utter collapse due to their own leadership core shitting the bed.

The timing doesn't make sense, and it's just been one thing after another for CBJ fans since Gaudreau's death

Define nothing wrong.

Blocking trades and walking at the end of the contract is the most damaging outcome for a team, worse than a player with an NMC asking for a trade and narrowing it down to one destination. At least that still gives the team a chance to extract value.

That’s what Marner did, except he has the excuse that the trade offers came late.
Werenski has said that he won't re sign at the end of the contract he signed. Which means he is okay honoring the contract he signed and not asking to move. There's nothing wrong with him not extending post contract expiration which is well within his right.

He is an elite dman with an NMC(which isn't bad like Greer getting trade protection) and exercised his contractual right to not accept a trade to somewhere he did not want to go to. This is not the same as Larkin or Brady requesting trades.

They are in the East, and certainly a competitive team. And they will pay. That's it.

No-one has specifically said Carolina, but insiders have said that Carolina would absolutely be in on Werenski.

My wish list for tomorrow is just Drouin at 1-2 million and call it a day.

Bank that cap space for the trade deadline. Let the kids fight for the bottom six spots.

Werenski rapidly transforming himself from the most beloved CBJ player into Marner 2.0. Columbus will support this team to the end but he will be booed off the ice every game after this last week.

Man, the chaos that emerged following that US hockey Olympic run is just insane. No less than five players from that roster asking to get out of their respective teams (Hughes, Tkachuk, Werenski, Hellebuyck, Larkin). Two of those probably happen regardless but the gold medal win most assuredly played a part with the others.
