Speculation: 2026-27 Trade/FA thread - Waiting for the SCF to be over….

People also seem to be leaving out the fact that Nemec is reportedly looking for a contract similar to what Luke Hughes got. Not only will we have to give up assets to get him, we would also apparently have to pay him like LaCombe, even though he hasn’t earned that at all.
Yea f that

Does this include Terry?

Or maybe it’s just the fringe guys that don’t matter - Nesterenko, Colangelo, etc.
I always felt that at some point , Terry would be traded ( maybe once we started getting into salary cap issues once sennecke/mcqueen are all being paid big bucks ) this past season, seeing how he played and how his contract should age well. I wasn’t so sure anymore. But I’m back to again thinking he will be traded at some point ( the beeker seems to really not be long players who are injured a bunch ) I think if minty is traded, everyone will point to “ play me or trade me” for me, it will be a mix of that + minty seems to always be dealing with nagging injuries which slow him down.

Really? Jesus christ. I would have been interested in a buy-low trade, but not if he wants to be paid like that.

Tom Fitzgerald really was a dumbass. Giving Luke that contract did a number on that locker room and their cap sheet.

I think it’s more to force himself out of NJ… my guess is he signs a bridge deal with whoever traded for him.

9 sounds like a lot but if he continues playing top 4 mins and bringing offense it’s not actually that far fetched that he’s worth that

It’s also because there’s a whole weird dynamic with that team and Nemec/Hughes specifically where they think Hughes gets treated differently because of his brother so getting asked to take a lot less is probably a sore spot.

McT, for his warts, is at least a middle 6 winger on the NHL today, and will be paid as one in a year or two time.

Nemec is a worse skater than McTavish, is equally or more lost in his own zone than McTavish is, and a team who drafted him 2nd overall was so unimpressed with his trajectory that they played Peaches and Kovalcevic over him when the could, and he never tried a PP slot away from Dougie or Hughes except during Dougie's administrative sitting to try and force a trade with him.

Can Nemecs career still be salvaged? Maybe, but not if he wants more than 3-4M AAV as a bridge to figure out if there is, in fact, anything there, and not at the cost of Mctavish.

I mean as much as how bad Greg “I don’t know” Cronin was, he was kinda right about McTavish. lol

What a very vanilla draft, only guys I think are worth a shit are Guenther and edvinsson

between the defense, potential trades with McTavish (and whoever else we have), it’s going to be pretty interesting where we stand.

I just skimmed over what you said here..

Do they see Moore as a better forward than defenseman? That’s an interesting call
It seems like thats the path forward for Moore on this team ( I’m not sure he will buy into that. Dmen make more than 4th line grinders ) but I don’t see Moore above Luneau as far as on the depth chart at rhd. That’s for sure

Maybe I’m dumb

But couldn’t you just get rid of Vatrano and Kreider if you want to be cost efficient…. And cross the mctavish bridge when you have to? Only reason to move mctavish now is if we’re bringing in someone making money

Unless you think a) his value is high right now , b) you think he’s topped off

These “ experts “ throw as much shit on the wall, as they can via the ducks. Truth be told, the beeker doesnt let anyone know Jack shit. MacT needs to be traded now, while he has center value imho. I don’t agree with people who say we’re selling low on him. Other than this past season( where he missed camp) he had always progressed nicely each passing season. The beeker is telling everyone that we have McQueen coming up and we have big salaries to pay. MacT is a luxury we can use to fill in other gaps.

MacT wouldn’t be signed to that deal if Verbeek knew that he would just have to trade him a year later. It’s not like Cutter and Leo’s performances last year were completely out of nowhere. This is absolutely performance based, he’s fallen out of favor here, and we don’t want a repeat of the Gibson situation where his value deteriorates to a point that he’s sold for scraps
