Speculation: 2026-27 Trade/FA thread/Roster Thread - Waiting for the SCF to be over….

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
What a crazy day. Super fun to see all these trades. Definitely a seller's market, and the Ducks have assets. There are a few key facts: PV wants a top 6 forward and at least 1 top 4 RHD, McTavish is on the trade block, and Martin specifically stated the Ducks want to move up in the draft. Really curious to see what Verbeek focuses on.
I wonder if OTT is done or if Mason is still a target.

Anyone else starting to get the felling Mctavish will be traded for a Zegras like return? I hope im wrong but its possible Verbeek is as usual playing hardball only to watch every other proactive gm make trades only to panic get what he can a 2nd/3rd rd pick and a Poehling like soft Journey man/3rd liner
I mean I feel like it’s going to end up
Kapanen + 1st type return… which would suck… at that point you should just keep him

I’d hope to get at least 1 of Reinbacher or hage, still a step backwards pending other moves but a chance to step forward a year down the line which I’m okay with

If you think of Carlo as a Gudas replacement he suddenly becomes a lot more palatable

That's exactly it. If you approach it from a Trouba replacement angle then absolutely not, and when people suggest moving a young D for him they are either overrating Carlo or underrating our kids, or both.

Basically, what would you give for one more year of Gudas?

Carlo = Gudas
Parayko = Trouba

Overall improvement = zero

I don't think Robert Thomas was ever really available except for a ridiculous overpay. He was bait to get teams to call the Blues.

Its why you always listen even if you're not selling.

Even if PV had no intention of trading MM, by playing along he gets to find out what all the other GMs consider moveable pieces. Maybe players you didn't realize we're on the outs.

Furthermore on Carlo - if you’re asking me which Toronto defenseman helps this team more, Carlo or Reilly? (I understand Reilly is a lefty but reports connect him to California teams)

For me it’s Carlo, 10 out of 10 times. I don’t want him playing top minutes but in a 2nd or 3rd pairing role it’s a step in the right direction toward being better in our own end.

This more than anything has hurt the current rebuild.

With the ‘15/‘17 teams it was a sellers market. 1st for vermette, 2nds for Winnik etc.

When Anaheim traded Hampus, Manson, Rakell, etc - Buyers market. Those trades at this time would’ve been 1sts+

Now we’re sortve buyers again and it’s a sellers market.
We had every chance. Assets we spent for 20 ganes of JC we could have used to combine with other pieces and get something like noah dobson. We didn't.

While there are sellers and buyers markets here and there, its never in favor for certain teams. Weatger you use it in your favor or not. And I think we made a mistake not getting Dobson or even Parayko at the TDL.

Pissing away assets = bad. And while I am by his side mostly so far, Pat is starting to build a history of not using his assets in the most optimal way (Zegras, JC trades). Pat has also some great moves. But he will need to keep hutting those great ones and eliminate the blunders if we want to get anywhere

Calling the rebuild over and mandating the playoffs a year ago will turn out to be a huge blunder for the organization. That was clear to a few of us even then. The Ducks are following the path that LA took after 2021. I expect similar results.

I think Parayko has been a better player than Trouba for quite some time, but that's not to say who will age better moving forward. Parayko was a second pairing RD for Team Canada, I don't think Trouba would have been under any consideration for that roster. There's at least some notable difference in overall talent there.

Parayko would cost assets but come with a far lesser financial commitment. Without knowing the cost to acquire, it's hard to say for sure - but on the surface I'd rather trade for Parayko than give Trouba a big long term UFA deal

Well, Parayko has 4 years left and is 33. Trouba getting a 5 year deal at 32 is comparable. Both players have already played the best hockey they will ever play. But I think people are going to be stunned at the price Verbeek has to pay for Parayko if he acquires him.
