Speculation: 2026-27 Trade/FA thread/Roster Thread - Waiting for the SCF to be over….

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Srsly, wirh all the prospects and pieces we have. And even a guy like MacT whos slow and dumb, could get us back a 1st this week. And he acts like we can’t do a trade we want because we don’t have our first anymore. He can’t get into his head, that the beeker didnt want kesserling( if he did, he could’ve just gotten him with the millón other pieces we have to offer in a trade)
I mean, we don’t really have that many pieces or high caliber prospects (and you absolutely don’t want to move McQueen or Solberg). A 1st is meaningful, especially around the draft. If we’re going to turn our 3rd overall pick McT into just some late 1st, that isn’t good. I agree that tomd is overdoing his thing a bit, because we really haven’t made enough moves that put such a clear emphasis on the now with disregard for the future, but it’s not like there isn’t room for concern. The mere repetitive hopium of Verbeek cooking some more or less tasty dish isn’t really bringing more to the table than his negative outlook, in all fairness.

We should be all over this, but since Carolina is so analytics based I doubt they'd have any interest in mctavish.

Maybe they would if we were willing to take on Kotkaniemi's terrible contract... Nikishin has played some RD... it would be fun having a Russian pair with him and Minty. I'd think Carolina would prefer to find a taker for that contract over a buy out spread out over their contention window.

The point is that LA thought they were ready to compete again and they weren't. Same situation in Anaheim. Unless you think that we're talking about basketball where 4 players can win a championship?
No but you need great young pieces in place and that LA team had hardly any that were proving themselves at the time. The comparison is truly terrible and makes zero sense. This team was carried by youngsters ready to keep getting better. Their team was basically on its last legs with a mid twenties Kempe and a couple ineffective youngsters that still never took the leap ours already have.

There's nothing about those conversations that have been reasonable. It's just unaccountable negativity.

Most successful cores are built around 4-6 standout or core players.

Florida: Barkov, Tkachuk, Bobrovsky, Reinhart, maybe you can argue for Lundell, Forsling, and Ekblad.
Vegas: Eichel, Stone, Pietrangelo, Marchessault, Theodore, Karlsson (can't really credit Hill much)
Chicago: Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, Crawford
Pittsburgh: Crosby, Malkin, Letang, can't even argue for Fleury
Tampa: Stamkos, Vasilevski, Hedman, Point,

(edit: hell our decade of competitive hockey post cup was largely driven by two core players)

Obviously you need to build good depth around them, but 4 guys who by all accounts are on the right track is a good place to start. Edit: the Kings didn't rush their rebuild because they thought guys like Byfield, Turcotte, Kempe, etc. were ready to become cornerstone stars, they did it because they thought they'd lose Kopitar and Doughty if they didn't accelerate the rebuild into an aggressive retool.

Also what about all the other great pieces we have still developing. Do you think no one else will be any good? Are you ready to place all the defensive prospects and youngsters as failures? Are you rushing now? Everything you are saying isn’t adding up.

You can dislike the JC trade all you want. I understand that take completely. There will be differing opinions on it. At this point we lost a late first for a player who left and that’s all it is.

Your comparisons to LA or saying this will haunt us for years is way over exaggerated and a completely pessimistic look that makes no sense compared to how bright our future actually looks. It’s like you want bad things to happen. It’s annoying.

Vatrano being moved shouldn’t come as a surprise. The guy couldn’t get in the lineup over Ross and Harkins to end the year.

I know he had a really tough year personally and I feel for him, but the writing has been on the wall.

I think they’d be happy to retain 25% on him and dump him. Or get back a bad contract that fits the team better.

Forgot about Ross. Wonder what the plans are with him and Viel. We need to get Viel back here.
