Chicken or the eggIt was the drafting, not the developing that was the issue.
You guys are interacting with the final boss of doomers, but this “all gas no brakes” stuff is pretty funny considering the Devils had better GA numbers than Calgary while dragging the insane (in a bad way) performance of Markstrom.Having only watched Jersey a couple times when the Flames played them, they seemed to be all gas no breaks. It worked once and Jersey won in Calgary (IIRC) the other time (in Jersey) they got beat by our bum ass 3rd and 4th liners. In my limited viewings Jersey had next to no defensive structure and while that lead to a couple good offensive chances they were a complete and utter mess in their own zone.
Flames are quite defensive orientated, we don't have the top end defenders to make waves, but the past couple years we have routinely made waiver wire/fringe NHLer's fit in and look somewhat decent.

The Devils problem was *too much* structure if anything. They completely abandoned the rush offense that was successful for them in the past.
Yeah, but you had Kevin Bahl, so obviously that evens out.Congratulations.
Your team had a 3 goal advantage over a club that had Olli Maatta playing 22:30 a night
I have a few of them! You need to go to more games in Calgary wearing Czech or Slovak jersey. Lol.
Yeah the all gas no brakes system was Ruffs. And in fact that was where Nemec was at his best. You guys are interacting with the final boss of doomers, but this “all gas no brakes” stuff is pretty funny considering the Devils had better GA numbers than Calgary while dragging the insane (in a bad way) performance of Markstrom.

There are two ends on the ice. Elias excelled on both.
and that’s why they missed the playoffsThat's great. Hughes is far more impactful on the team's results.

Let’s not rewrite history. Hanifin may have played more game but at the time of that trade there were lots of discussion that he was a disappointment and not worth his draft position. And 22 yo Hanifin was significantly better than Nemec.

22 year old Hanifin was an all situations top 4 defenseman in Calgary.
You're thinking of 21 year old Hanifin, who was the #4D in Carolina that season, while 21 year old Nemec wasn't even an NHL player.
You don't understand the timeline it seems. At 22, Nemec was an opportunistic lead footed offensive dman who was a huge defensive liability, while 22 y/o Hanifin was a elite skating all situations top 4 D on one of the top teams in the league.
They're not remotely comparable.

Yes he is a much better skater but it’s not like he was a sure top 4 dman at the time of the trade.
Nemec may or may not work out but I would say he comes with the same questions and expectations
Should I sit down with it and share my experience of being unloved and tell it that it's okay to be a a loser? That poor draft pick must feel so unloved![]()
Hanifin was never really considered an offensive defenseman. Always seen as more of a mobile 2 way defender.
Except for the fact that Hanifin scored at a higher rate in a lower scoring era through his first 4 years in the league, and had already broken the 30 point plateau twice as a 20 and 21 year old, something Nemec has yet to do.
It's fairly likely that nemec is the best player involved in this trade. The Nemec trade is a great trade for CGY. Assuming the draft picks traded will result in picks no better than the 25th pick in 2027 and 2028, here are the stats for the last 55 years for players drafted 25th overall…
Success Rates of NHL Draft Picks
NOTE: Every player is different, but collecting data from the 1963 NHL Amateur Draft through the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, here is how the 25th first-round pick stands up in terms of career games
Hockey Reference, Quant Hockey, the NHL, and other sources were used.
25th Overall:
1+ NHL Games: 85.4% (47/55)
100+ NHL Games: 56.3% (31/55)
300+ NHL Games: 38.1% (21/55)
500+ NHL Games: 25.8% (15/55)
750+ NHL Games: 16.3% (9/55)
1000+ NHL Games: 3.6% (2/55)
I think Nemec is a great fit. Assuming Nemec and Parekh will both play in the top 4 but on different pairings, you end up having a defenseman on the ice who's an offensive threat for 45-50 minutes a game.Devils actually chose Thanasis Hughes over Nemec? sheesh
Not sure Calgary is a good fit tho given they have Parekh.
We already know Nemec isnt afraid to ask for a trade if he doesnt get the prime time opportunities like PP1 QB.
They also have Hunter Bruz who has a track record of doing the same thing ( demanding/bailing out if he doesnt see a path to him being "the guy" especially on pp1.)
It's not that crazy considering the user you guys are debating with. They love making up "facts" to fit their narrative.you know something is wrong in the universe when we essentially agree on something
