2025 Trade Deadline

Carolina really screwed themselves. Necas was their best player and transformed their team because of his elite skating and ability to carry the puck and make zone entries by himself. Early in the year they were scoring off the rush a good deal with Necas and not simply grinding it out on their forecheck. Instead they were turning over pucks between the blue lines and counter attacking.

That game is gone since they moved him and in Rantanten they have another heavy Finnish forecheck player and that isn't giving them the extra dimension they need to make a deep playoff run. He will walk to Free Agency and they will have gotten essentially nothing for their best player and sacrificed this season.

Assuming that Necas would have walked next year anyway and they knew this, could they have gotten a better return by holding their cards until now? Looking at the market, you would have to say yes. Or pony up to the bar and pay Necas and keep him.

Colorado has played their cards perfectly too. Necas instead of Rantanen is a big win for them at the moment and don't forget Drury who has given them center depth too. Having added Necas, Drury and now Nelson they can make a legit run at the cup.
Yeah, but they knew Rantanen could walk right to UFA. I don’t hate the bet from them. See how Rantanen fits and take a run at re-signing him and at least give yourself the chance at making a run. Moving Necas for futures does nothing for them trying to get over the ECF hump.

Be prepared for the site to be super f***ed up (worse than it is now if that's even possible). There could be an attempt get of the live threads feature up around noonish, what could go wrong, especially on deadline day lmao.
Site has been fine the last 24hrs for me but maybe im not used to the issues

Mccann is the guy I want. Idk how available he is but that would be a great add
McCann played last night and is the last vet with any upside they have; i doubt hes seriously available

Not unless they want to run all youngsters

At least the social media person is having fun.

Devils should have more content now that the social media manager won’t have to split time with hockey.

Well we're hearing our Devils "in contacts" with most of the fanbase wishes/wants.... can't blame Fitz for trying... especially not giving into deals to waste our limited assets on.

They saw my Robert Thomas posts?!

I don't think Ryan Donato is the answer at 3C this year, but next year behind Hichier and Jack he might be able to do it in the short term. But he would certainly bolster the bottom-6 this year. I'd give them our 2026 3rd straight up and up the offer to a 2nd this year if they agree to take Haula back.

I don't really agree that we have "limited assets"

does that mean we should move them for strict rentals? Definitely not.

This is unfortunately nowhere close to what rentals are costing this year. That said, I don't think teams really want Ryan Donato all that much, so maybe he'd be cheaper with a limited market.

The biggest assets the Devils have to potentially improve the team are Mercer and one of Nemec/Casey. Tough to find a team that wants those guys, and is willing to deal something the Devils want in return. Those are also major pieces that can't be moved without a guy with term coming back.

Devils have WPG's 2nd and their own 2nd to move, which are not major assets, but should get them a low end center. That at a bare minimum needs to be acquired today.

Sing the Southpark “ What would Brian Boitano do?” Song but use Ryan Donato.

That would be great, but Chicago would tell us to get lost.

You're probably right, my understanding is that if they can't get an extension done they will 100% trade him for the best offer they get.

I’m hoping for RoR . Think he is the perfect fit as interim 2C that slides down to 3c when Jack is back .
Wiiid like to add one more player too . Just no Palms please . Don’t want a rental unless it’s Boeser. .
