2025 Trade Deadline

I wonder if there could be some pressure on Rantanen if he thought he’d enjoy being in Dallas.

Or if he just wants the most money on his next contract then he won’t care they’re moving onto other teams.

Either position by him is reasonable.
I ninja'd my previous post but apparently you got there first lol. I think Rantanen is almost certainly going to test the market and is not at all interested in signing an extension right now, which makes him a true rental and really hurts his value.

Carolina really didn't think this through and are going to be left holding the bag no matter what happens.

I just don't want to spend already thin assets on a pure rental or short term help. Especially when those assets are going to the same division. I think there are hockey trades out there that could make us better in the long run and not just this season. A season in which the playoffs aren't a guarantee.

with jacks injury history nothing is going to be guaranteed

Which is why we should be looking at a young center that can jump up the lineup if needed. Not Palms.

so we want a young c with term reasonable hit and production but people dont want casey if hes available

you take what you can today (palms example) then make the playoffs and readdress in the summer

I don't think that is something that you'll find at the deadline. Mittelstadt would be the only one who would possibly qualify for those traits, but he isn't anything spectacular.

If that means you'd prefer to stand pat, that's fine. I just don't expect Fitz to do that with us in a playoff spot and trying to support the current team in making the final push.

Just weaken Carolina even more please...... idk if thats keeping Mikko or moving him lol...

lets just trade for McDavid and call it a day...

It's a bad day for this site to be miserable on mobile, half the time tweets just don't load. Need to sign in on my work laptop 👀

If the price isn't astronomical I'd be interested in Mittelstadt. It will just probably be astronomical.

I'm slightly skeptical how much palms actually helps right now. So I'm not keen on giving up something of value for him which hurts our ability to make real, meaningful trades in the summer.

Guys I'm seeing reports that a huge trade is being discussed involving popular teams. Subscribe for more details.

Popular teams? Guess we aren't involved....

Carolina really screwed themselves. Necas was their best player and transformed their team because of his elite skating and ability to carry the puck and make zone entries by himself. Early in the year they were scoring off the rush a good deal with Necas and not simply grinding it out on their forecheck. Instead they were turning over pucks between the blue lines and counter attacking.

That game is gone since they moved him and in Rantanten they have another heavy Finnish forecheck player and that isn't giving them the extra dimension they need to make a deep playoff run. He will walk to Free Agency and they will have gotten essentially nothing for their best player and sacrificed this season.

Assuming that Necas would have walked next year anyway and they knew this, could they have gotten a better return by holding their cards until now? Looking at the market, you would have to say yes. Or pony up to the bar and pay Necas and keep him.

Colorado has played their cards perfectly too. Necas instead of Rantanen is a big win for them at the moment and don't forget Drury who has given them center depth too. Having added Necas, Drury and now Nelson they can make a legit run at the cup.

i mean his stats are 3rd line material is he a world beater? no but he would be fine for 3c and with jack out obviously 2c this year. when i read people didn't want him i thought it was because his contract was insane but it really isn't terrible and its only two years

i dunno i mean the avs want to dump his cap hit for some flexibility? i doubt the devils move a roster piece since it wouldn't help them now when they need bodies. so if its just picks and a prospect? i'm fine with it

I wouldn't hate Mittelstadt, he's just never done much for me personally as a player. But we could certainly do worse.

On the spectrum of guys even available with some control, none particularly excite me. When you factor in Fitzgerald and the acquisition costs, it’s downright frightening.

To me the biggest message to the guys is the room is closer to doing nothing and saying “you are all good enough, get it done and make the playoffs” than making a bad deal just to signal commitment to the room.

Re-tool in the summer when you can jettison the driftwood.

Totally agree, the return for Rantanen is the return for Necas and it'll either be walking for nothing or your standard rental fare of 1st + B prospect or whatever. Both are terrible.
