Dumoulin acquisition I understand as Siegenthaler out long term and we needed a solid LD that can play top 4. Paying a premium for retention in hindsight appears absolutely stupid since we didn't need cap space.

Cody Glass is a 4C and marginal upgrade on Dowling/Lazar. I guess 3rd round pick is fine. At age 25 he is still young.

Sprong is an AHLer and essential Beckman replacement. I do not expect him in New Jersey lineup at all.

Cholo appears to be the new DeSimone. He'll sit as a 7th dman and only be used if injuries. Casey will be sent back to Utica.

Fitzgerald failed to address the 2C/3C issue the team has. But with the prices paid for Nelson, Laughton. Maybe that is a good thing. I'm happy other teams got Cozens and Middlestadt. And we didn't trade for Brayden Schenn. I really don't want to carry another underperforming player not worth the cap hit with Palat and Meier on this team.

O'Reilly would of been awesome as a stopgap 2C and 3C for next season , but it sounded like he didn't want to leave Nashville.

End result it was a pretty bad deadline for Fitz but we didn't lose major assets. So it gives him something to work with in the summer.

Lastly Kovacevic signing was fine. Term and cap hit OK. I do however think this leads to Nemec being traded in the summer.

This is pretty much my take too. Don't like losing the 2nd because we didn't make a significant move for a F, but can't really complain about anything else since they lost their top offensive D and F.

Gruden blows. We gave away our second leading scorer from Utica. Replaced him with Sprong. Maybe a good move. Then traded Stillman who sucks and never should've been the pick anyway and replaced him with a guy who also sucks. What in the hell happened to Fitz?

The funny part is that both of those selections in the Glass trade, Stillman and Graham, were blasted at the time by the fanbase pretty harshly. Definitely more so than your typical "some people will hate this pick" type reaction. I don't think you get a lot of those year in and year out, but those two guys definitely across that threshold.

That trade will be a minor footnote in this disastrous second half of a season….

Why? We can give him the same deal we just gave Dillon and keep him for three more years after this at $4 million. Then this deal may be worth it lol.

He’s only gonna be 34 next season and we need moar defensive defensemen!
