Sheesh, that is rough. Two late 1sts and a promising young player for a star (with extension). So canes go from two guys in the top 10 in scoring to Stankoven. That is a pretty massive blunder considering the metro is pretty wide open.

What really sucks here, for not only Avs and Stars fans, but the whole of the NHL, the way the playoffs are set up, these two teams are going to meet in round 1, and one will be done before the end of April.

People overrate Stankoven. There's a chance he turns into a good 2nd line winger, yes, but Carolina isn't acquiring some star here.

Now that 2C is figured out, one could argue the Avs are stronger today without Mikko than with him.

It does suck that he went to a division rival which the Avs have yet to figure out how to beat.

I mean you are entitled to your opinion, but if you think he's getting booed at Ball arena on the 16th when he returns, I got bad news for you.

He did a lot for this team, and by trading him this team arguably got even better. Obviously as a Dallas Star, you treat him like the rest of their players. But thinking he should get the Tavares treatment? Yeah, no.

The Canes did very well in the end.

Sucks donkeyballs that Rantanen ended up in Dallas.
Gonna be an interesting playoff series

That's a decent deal for a team rebuilding, IMO. Flat out silly of a deal for a team like Carolina.

Like I said earlier, I do think that here Rantanen eventually just called up his agent and told him to get the f***ing deal done. It had cost him an extension with the Avs, and extension with the Canes, and was going to almost cost him an extension with the Stars.

Probably should've done it much earlier, but it is what it is.

Stankoven is solid. Obviously Rantanen is an upgrade, particularly on the power play. Weird deadline for Carolina.

Look forward to seeing how the Avs look with a functioning second line. I think they’re being underrated.

It’s not the value that’s the issue for Carolina, it’s the signal.
The signal is that they’re never going to be serious about contending with this group.

Avs are the better team if they want to be, especially with the deadline adds. I really don't see Rantanen moving the Stars past their Western Conference obstacles
