Powers reported as of yesterday, no team offered a 1st for Donato - even in this market. Whatever that means.

I just hope KD has a plan for the offseason because what's going on currently with Bedard has me highly concerned. Part of me wants to sell of parts to further tank this season but part of me wants KD to be in on trades for players like Cozens and others.

Friedman had a whole thing in his podcast about how GMs move off their price just to make a deal. Then forevermore they are viewed as weak and you know that they can be waited out. At this point the biggest disaster would be getting negotiated down to a 2nd for Donato. You get your first or you resign him. Taking a 2nd just because would have serious longterm negative impact on KD.

This talk of retaining Donato is crazy. Even if Davidson likes him, he should tell Donato he likes him, but he’s going to trade him to a cup contender, go try win a cup and then we’ll talk in the summer and give him more than market value because the Hawks are going to have to spend to get to the floor. Why wouldn’t Donato like that opportunity? He gets to be in the playoffs and then get well paid in the summer = win/win for him.

My approach with Donato:
1. Package with second rounder (Dallas) for first.
2. If not possible, sign extension (no more than 3 years; prefer 2).
3. If extension not happening or too costly (do NOT exceed 3.75 per), take the second round pick. Preference is 26 or 27 pick.

If he waits it out he might get that first he desires. Then use the contract you negotiated with him as what you will give him when he comes back.

Well - the Pens just got a 2nd for the corpse of Anthony Beauvillier so anything goes right now.

I've enjoyed Donato - but IMO if you can get value for him you take the money and run. He's not the type of guy who you double down on with a long term deal.
