If they re-sign Donato he will get more than 4. Our plug captain and Dickinson make over 4 and Donato has way more leverage than both of them combined.
I hope Donato gets traded today. If not KD would go from getting an A with the Knight trade to an F with keeping Donato.

The money doesn't matter in the slightest, its the term. If they give him 6.5x2 it wouldn't matter.
100% agree. I feel like he is more a team leader than Foligno and waaaaay younger. I would be happy to see him get something like 4 yrs not sure on avg. I also would absolutely accept a 1st rd pick if one was offered
If Davidson is doing his job, there are very few untouchables on the roster right now. This is not a team that is 2-3 pieces away from contending for a playoff spot. If there is an opportunity to move a vet for an attractive package, he should listen.

I don't see how keeping a productive player takes a grade from A to F. I could see a C or maybe D but an F?

I'm in the keep Donato camp just because this team has to have some veteran presence - he's worth more in the next couple of seasons to the Hawks than a late first or second round pick.

What they can't do is not trade him and then not sign him. The conversation on the extension should be easy. We shouldn't be looking for term. If he wants term then we move on and trade him today.

He's been a bottom 6er his whole career. He's in a contract year and he's having a career year. He will revert back to his bottom 6 ways next year. We will be paying him 5 mil to do so. Sell high now.

I think people are still stuck in the 70mil cap mindset when talking contracts.
A 4mil contract in a 95.5mil salary cap is 4% of the cap.
For reference, if the cap was 70mil, like it was in 2012-13, that would be 2.8mil. Or pretty close to what Handzus and Frolik made in our Cup days.

Could make sense, didn't realize Norris was signed for so long at such a high cap hit. Think I'd still rather have Cozens with Norris injury history,

It lines up pretty well. You would rather have Cozens but both centers around the same age on near the same deal. Buffalo has to shake up this team somehow. Greenway and Zucker back already. Seems just like a shake up with a little more risk on the injury front.
Like it for Ottawa.

Cozens has been pretty bad and timid since he got the shit kicked out of him a couple years ago. Maybe next to Brady he can bring the fire back. Although he might not be a center either.
I prefer trading Donato, but I'm also fine with extending him.
It's a good message to send that results get rewarded and we are no longer scorched earth rebuild mode.
I think it would be healthy for the team, even if we are looking to trade Donate next year or after.
