I am critical of Davidson the same way I'm critical of all GMs - but he isn't a Sith Lord. He can't force a GM to trade a 1st for Ryan Donato. Get a 2cd if you cant extend him but let's not pretend we don't know Donato's value even in this Willy Wonka trade deadline and we can all see there's not a lot of perceived value in the 2025 draft so who really cares about a late 2025 second round pick???

If teams weren't offering more than a 2nd round pick for Donato and he'd be willing to sign for under $4m per for a few years, then fine, whatever.

Do not sign him to a big, or relatively big contract. He's not the same level of player as Teuvo or Bertuzzi, despite what he's done this year. Signing him for 5m per or extending him for 5 years, or both, is a straight up bad move.

With the prices that have been thrown around over the last 48 hours, it will hurt if we - the 2nd to last place team right now - don't get in on any of this action.

Bertuzzi? Seriously?

Personally I'd take Donato ahead of TT despite the difference in pure skill.

this FO needs to be more aggressive when good young forwards are on the market...Why are they not aggressively in on Peterka

Carolina actual did pretty well in the end. Necas was gone after next year. They just didnt seem to fit. They ended up with 2 1st and Stankoven for him in the end.

Kyle should be calling Carolina to try and get one of the 1sts from the Rantanen trade for DonatoCarolina is in a tough spot to give up one of those firsts for Ryan Donato. He's a pure rental and has never had a season like this before. Hope I am wrong and the book worm GM makes this move for our sake

I prefer extending Donato if we can only acquire a late 2nd.

But I prefer adding a 3rd+ to him if that gets a 1st.

At the end of the day, if it's only a 2nd on the table, it's inconsequential.

Send the message of rewarding winning, why not. Of course Donato will regress, but we won't miss out on much.

2nds are valuable assets. Donato's value terminates in mid-April.

Given the deal Buffalo made today, it doesn't look like they're tearing it down. With that in mind, what do the Hawks have to offer the Sabres?

well they've made a gazillion picks in the past 3 drafts and have a gazillion more in the next 3 drafts, so they should have stuff of value to address their need at forward...they throw away their picks like candy to move up 5 spots, maybe start using them on young nhl players when they're available, like Kakko

If we extend Donato with long-term deal we have to factor in the cost it will take to move him down line

The reality is an extended Donato is almost certainly to end up a buyout or having to trade asset to get rid of cap hit

We have seen how disastrous Davidsons's vet contracts have been at this point. Imagine Mrazek, Athanasiou or Brodie with 4-5 year terms at 4.5M-5M

Again, why would we have to give up Donato because of cap hit, even if he falls off a cliff? We aren't going to be close to the cap, anytime soon.

Some of you are stuck in 2015, where the cap was 70mil, and we were up against it every year.

Read again. Buffalo doesn't appear to be interested in picks.

In a vacuum sure. But we are coming off a thousand picks already and need to worry about developing a winning culture.

There will be plenty of FA's and players in trades in offseason you can bring in

f***ing culture is a BS argument

Look at all that culture Brodie, Martinez, Bertuzzi and the slugs signed by Davidson bring. Hey, what about that wonderful vet culture that got Athanasiou and Mrazek awful extension

Donato has never won shit so what winning culture does he exactly help build? He is just a guy having career year about to turn 29 that wants his big longterm deal and Hawks should not make mistake of being ones to hand it to him

silly argument, we've been inefficiently spending our cap dollars for years now, people were making this same argument when we were taking back players like Brett Connolly in a trade..."who cares, we have so much cap"
