well they've made a gazillion picks in the past 3 drafts and have a gazillion more in the next 3 drafts, so they should have stuff of value to address their need at forward...they throw away their picks like candy to move up 5 spots, maybe start using them on young nhl players when they're available, like Kakko
We aren't going to be near one of the best teams for the next 3-5 years, at least, and it has nothing to do with who we are signing lol.the best teams in the league right now are exploiting the shit out of their cap dollars, through LTIR and paying the right players, drafting well...they're assembling the type of roster that would be worth 1.25x or 1.5x the cap ceiling, not wasting it on bum vets at multiples their market value like we do with Foligno, Mrazek, AA, Martinez, Brodie, Dickinson etc...stop spending cap dollars and middling vets, and thats what Donato is, more of that group
None of those contracts have prevented the team from doing anything, and keeping the term short was obviously a conscious decision to prevent them from doing so later on. At least let the bad deal happen before freaking out over it. It's still more likely to be a negotiating position than anything else at this pointIf we extend Donato with long-term deal we have to factor in the cost it will take to move him down line
The reality is an extended Donato is almost certainly to end up a buyout or having to trade asset to get rid of cap hit
We have seen how disastrous Davidsons's vet contracts have been at this point. Imagine Mrazek, Athanasiou or Brodie with 4-5 year terms at 4.5M-5M
because it does? the Hawks have been asscheeks for years now at spending their cap dollars and their w/l the past 5+ years reflects thatBut we do, so why would it matter?
this same argument for wasting money on average players goes back to the late Bowman yearsWe aren't going to be near one of the best teams for the next 3-5 years, at least, and it has nothing to do with who we are signing lol.
No it doesn't. Who should we have signed to better contracts?because it does? the Hawks have been asscheeks for years now at spending their cap dollars and their w/l the past 5+ years reflects that
Why are we comparing what is happening now, to the Bowman years?this same argument for wasting money on average players goes back to the late Bowman years
theres an opportunity cost to all of this...we let guys like Strome walk and sign absolute bums like AA for the same amount basically, where is that money better spentNone of those contracts have prevented the team from doing anything, and keeping the term short was obviously a conscious decision to prevent them from doing so later on. At least let the bad deal happen before freaking out over it. It's still more likely to be a negotiating position than anything else at this point
because you're making the same argument that was made then...who cares if we're spending 4m on Connolly, it doesn't matterWhy are we comparing what is happening now, to the Bowman years?
No one wanted Strome, every team in the league didn't want to trade for him. No one here expect Musto wanted Strome around anymore. We were tanking for Bedard.theres an opportunity cost to all of this...we let guys like Strome walk and sign absolute bums like Brodie, where is that money better spent
And that move didn't matter, did it? What difference did it make?because you're making the same argument that was made then...who cares if we're spending 4m on Connolly, it doesn't matter
the best teams in the league right now are leveraging their cap dollars for all that its worth...we waste ours on replacement/below replacement level players...rather just take on every cap dump in the league for picks/prospects than retain the kind of vets we love to pay to be hereNo one wanted Strome, every team in the league didn't want to trade for him. No one here expect Musto wanted Strome around anymore. We were tanking for Bedard.
you're right, it doesn't matter how you spend your cap space, just give out 5m aavs for 2.5m players, thats how you win in the long runAnd that move didn't matter, did it? What difference did it make?
We aren't against the cap, what are you talking about?the best teams in the league right now are leveraging their cap dollars for all that its worth...we waste ours on replacement/below replacement level players...rather just take on every cap dump in the league for picks/prospects than retain the kind of vets we love to pay to be here
this same argument for wasting money on average players goes back to the late Bowman years
We can do that, and still have all the cap space in the world right now. I don't think you even know what you are arguing right now.you're right, it doesn't matter how you spend your cap space, just give out 5m aavs for 2.5m players, thats how you win in the long run
the hawks have a handful of bad contracts on the books, they don't spend their money well, thats what...what do you not understand about wasting cap spaceWe aren't against the cap, what are you talking about?
