you don't understand the basic concept of opportunity cost, its not worth discussing anymore...KD is doing great, love the collective 20m+ spent on bums
I clearly understand it. We have lots of opportunity to do whatever we want, we have 35mil in cap space at the moment, and around 40+mil in the offseason. Hawks can do whatever they want.

2,275,000 isn't a lot, but I don't know how Veleno got that much in the first place lol

Was it an arbitration situation like Kurashev?

Sure

Lets not spend $5M on a soon to be 29 yr old having career year

Just because we have cap room doesn't mean we should shoot self in foot and hope we dont bleed out

Who said we should sign him for 5mil? And even if they did, they still have more than enough room to do whatever they want in the next 3-5 years, because they wont be spending to the cap anyway.

You want them to have worst draft odds? What about that value? If you say the FA cap money is bad contracts or poorly spent, you then want what, them to be a 6-9 draft range? Not 1-4? And you think that's spending cap better?

You're ignoring the opportunity and long term goal is built upon getting the best key talent to build up as a core.

The site is running well now all of a sudden

Nearly died a few times earlier
Thats because tens of thousands of delusional Leaf fans were clogging up hockey sites, in hopes of hearing that their team had somehow acquired Raantenen. They along with the Canadian press, were trying to convince themselves it was a possibility.

No point in buying him out

Hawks will have plenty of cap room and he could probably help Rockford

If he doesn't want that mutual termination is option
I don't want Veleno in the organization. He is a total stiff. Would 10x rather either a legit bottom 6 C, or a prospect in the role. Veleno is the worst of both worlds, not a legit NHLer and never going to be one.

Good trade for Mrazek, when everyone in the league knew we had 4 goalies on the cap. Frees up a couple million next year and gives us an NHL 4th liner with decent size and speed

Agree on good for Mrazek, and the cap. Disagree on Veleno. I don't watch the Wings a ton, but he always looks like a passenger when I see him play. Would rather sign a legit NHL 4th line C than have him on the roster.

Toews2Bickell what are you even talking about man.

The "best teams" are building around star players they acquired like a decade ago (often from sucking and drafting high). The Hawks don't have those kinda guys (combo of they weren't drafting high, trading their picks and some bad management), so they aren't leveraging cap space to get a 2nd line player.

The opportunity cost of doing dumb stuff like that would be that they'd un-tank themselves and not draft as high. The teams trading away all their picks right now will pay the piper when their cores are too old/retired. They'll house of cards it a bit staying aggressive and then they'll suck (maybe 1-2 sneak through and are still good with some luck and good management).

The opportunity cost for the Hawks comes down to making moves that would preven them from being the ones with the great players to build around in 10 years.

There will be plenty of FA's and players in trades in offseason you can bring in

f***ing culture is a BS argument

Look at all that culture Brodie, Martinez, Bertuzzi and the slugs signed by Davidson bring. Hey, what about that wonderful vet culture that got Athanasiou and Mrazek awful extension

Donato has never won shit so what winning culture does he exactly help build? He is just a guy having career year about to turn 29 that wants his big longterm deal and Hawks should not make mistake of being ones to hand it to him

It's not about Donato the player, but the message.

Putting up points? We are going to honour it.

Vs

Putting up points? Getting traded.

Other players see these moves too.

I have to give a big thank you to Dallas for two reasons:

1. They told Seth Jones he's a bum and they didn't want him, thus crushing his ego

2. They've taken Rantanen off the table, so I don't have to worry about Kyle signing him to a monster deal in free agency
