Because of the good handling of the draft(keeping our picks, some luck, and timely action(Wallstedt, Buium)), we are once again in a position to pick BPA. We could use a depth Dman with size- especially a RHD. Not feeling real great about what we have down in the farm. It sure is nice to have two young top 2D players/prospects in Buium and Faber already, and allows us to not reach for a D prospect. Since both Buium and Faber are vg with the puck, we don't want to go for an average sized PMD, either. More of a bruiser with size, like that Vlasic in CHI. Bogo and Middleton won't last forever, though there is still a lot of tread left on Middleton's tires.

I would also be fine with a C, or a scoring wing.

Have a feeling we’re trading our first this year
Unless the guy he mentioned starts putting up offense, I'd be surprised if that matters. 32nd out of all OHL players probably puts him in the 3rd-4th round.

*edit* Wait, I assumed you were responding to DANOZ28, maybe you weren't. In which case I will respond with: I could see it! They might need a top-6 player to contend.

Normally I'd said you're crazy, and that this goes against everything that BG has been doing so far, but ... he will need to convince Kap re-sign this summer, and getting some talent that is ready NOW would help him to make that happen. Also, for the first time in a long time, he will actually have the cap space to re-sign such an acquisition.

It would have to be a Fiala type player, i think. Not him, of course...that ship has sailed. A player that can compliment Boldy and Kap offensively. Barzal, if he is available, though I don't know how we'd make the cap work for this year, as his cap hit is over 9M. Something like Rossi + 1st for Barzal, though that's not the perfect trade.

If we’re talking good fits unsure if a team would be willing to move them, Troy Terry is an interesting name. 27yrs old on a team going nowhere. 2nd year of a 7yr deal at $7m per. Right shot, great skill, and decent frame/physicality.

The only problem I have with a move like this is that we need to be adding to the top-6, not merely replacing parts of it with slightly better parts. If Johansson is still in the top-6 after the trade, the trade didn't address the real issue.

I like the Troy Terry suggestion because I think Anaheim just might be willing to move an "aging" player for a couple of big rebuilding pieces given their standings situation, but it would be entirely contingent on their primarily taking prospects and picks that aren't on the Wild's current roster.

I like the Troy Terry suggestion because I think Anaheim

I don't think Guerin would be interested, but I would be curious how high Anaheim still is on Zegras. Not sure what his problem has been this year, but I think it's possible he could flourish on a better team on the line with Ek and Boldy.

Something like Heidt + 1st? I'm sure Anaheim fans wouldn't be impressed.

Probably Heidt + Peart +1st

ANA would want Rossi for Zegras. Don't see that happening. We can't afford Zegras's cap hit right now, and for all that I don't think that BG is enamoured of Marco's game, I really don't see him liking Zegras's. Rossi is a better two way player, and Zegras's offensive production seems to have gone the way of the Dodo (though i did read an article the other day about the Dodo making a comeback).

Maybe Boldy and Zegras would have chemistry?

Possibly Yurov? Maybe Heidt and Stramel.

Minnesota has some intriguing pieces but most of them are projects

I don't think that ANA wants another draft pick or prospect. They've got all sorts of young players, picks, and prospects, but they are unhappy with the progress of some of their top guys like McTavish and Zegras. They've got fans to answer to, and need to start winning, or at least showing some progress ASAP. I would guess that a player like Rossi would be more appealing than a "maybe" like Yurov, Heidt, or Ohgren.

Stramel has little value. I mean, what would you pay for Tyler Boucher?

I don't think Zegras has had a single strong game against the Wild in his career, and he also looked really bad at the WCs under Guerin last summer. Not fast, low compete, loses puck battles, and bad through the neutral zone are all things I have seen in his game that I bet Billy has noticed too. They tried the Boldy - Zegras combo a bit to get Zegras going during the WCs and it did not look effective.
